1  Re: Pumpkins! Please share your Jack O Lanterns in Halloween Decor and Parties by divaredhead on: October 30, 2006 10:54:32 AM
Holy cats!
These pumpkins are awe-inspiring!  I especially love Cinnamon Teal's for the artwork and Trick_Vic's and therealgigantor's for brilliance!

Here are ours from the last two years. Please forgive the slightly risqu "Pierce" - he is a source of pride. Apologies for image size!

I got a new toy, a router, and spent hours doing the detail on this piece. I had to photoshop it to recreate how it looked to trick-or-treaters.  The scrollwork goes all the way around the pumpkin, and the opening is on the underside so I could scroll over the top without having the top cut show.

We were angry at our landlord... a little art therapy never hurt anyone.

The wife raided my toolbox and pulled out everything and anything that looked like "jewellery". The result? A 2-gourd pumpkin with every part of his body pierced and tattooed!

This was a freaky pumpkin to start with - conjoined pumpkins, kinda. I turned it into a hapless pumpkin being attacked by a nasty hedghog.

2  My NEW DIY "mahogany" and "antique" pine headboard in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by divaredhead on: October 02, 2006 09:46:37 AM
So, we just moved into a new home, our first home.

We have a HUGE bedroom, and our little double bed sits on one wall, looking lonely.  We recently noticed that the lack of a headboard meant the wall behind the bed was getting stained by... well... whatever.

I woke up one morning with the idea for this headboard, and rushed out and bought the supplies right away!  I am very pleased with how it turned out - it's all the same wood, just stained different shades.

This majestic thing cost me less than 50$ all told - wood, stain, brushes, screws, felt, etc....

I'm so excited to be able to share it!

3  Re: creative couples costumes?? in Halloween Costumes by divaredhead on: September 23, 2006 01:39:40 PM
Okay, so my honey is also a girl... but we always try to be something "together" rather than two separate costumes.

First year we were together, we were two fallen angels, which was very beautiful and DAMN nobody took out pictures.

The next year, we were kinda a white-trash couple... again, no pics.

BUT... last year we went as Cain and Abel.  The honey was teaching a course on Genesis (the book in the Bible), and one of the legends that arises from that story is that Cain was the first vampire, so we ran with that.  If Cain is the first evil, Abel is the first innocent, right?  So I have a white gown stained all down the front with fake blood, and a dagger sticking out of my throat, and Cain's wearing the "Mark of Cain" around her neck etc etc...

Most people didn't get it, but we were pretty proud of it!  Apologies for newbie status... I am only allowed to post links to pics at this point:

Other ideas we played around with...

Night and day
Yin and Yang
Peas and carrots
Steak and potatoes

This year we're planning on going as "The Shoulder Advisers", with her being a devil, and me an angel.  This will probably provoke some fairly obnoxious behaviour, with us running around whispering advise in people's ears...

Let us know what you decide!

4  Re: transforming colour style in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by divaredhead on: September 20, 2006 07:01:00 PM
Wel....  Since you asked, I took a couple of pictures of my curtains so you can see what they look like, and why they're called "tab top".  I was really lazy, and didn't even bother to make the tabs even before I took the picture, so it doesn't look as nice as it does when the tabs are evenly spaced over the curtain rod.  One nice thing about tab tops is that they show off your curtain rod!

Huh.  I just got a notice that I have not posted a sufficient number of times to be allowed to post images, so I am linking to them instead...

Sorry for the inconvenience!

5  My first Craftster-inspired project! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by divaredhead on: August 18, 2006 02:00:23 PM
So, after much looking and scheming on how to make my very grown-up little sister (she's 28, and a midwife) a grown-up purse, and having NEVER made a purse before, I jumped in with both feet and made her something using a piece of suede I bought years ago on ridiculous sale - 3.99$!

This is my first project made entirely because I was TOTALLY inspired by what was posted on these pages, so I wanted to show you folk what fruit your crafty sharing produces!

I created the pattern myself after reading about building bags on these pages, and I must say I am very pleased with the results.

The details:  The purse is chocolate-brown suede, two pieces.  I salvaged the magnetic clasp from a Value Village vinyl purse.  The lining is made from old curtains (clean, though!), and I used a piece of an old shoebox to stiffen the base and keep its shape.  The eyelets that go through the suede to let the lining show were kicking around from an old project.

Hope the picture loads!
