31  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Easy Way To Make Pants on: September 16, 2004 08:17:03 PM
Ok, maybe some of you have already tried this, but I wanted to post it anyway.

I went to the thrift store in town a while ago and bought a pair of drawstring pants. They fit but there was a big dumb logo on the leg, but I decided to take it home anyway to see what I could do with it.

Anyway... some time later I was trying to find some free instructions on how to make pants without a real pattern, and I thought about those drawstring pants that I, of course, never did anything with.

So, here's what I did. I cut up the inseam on each leg and separated them. Then, I lay both pieces out and traced them onto some scrap fabric I had lying around. I cut the new pieces out and sewed up the inseam on each one and then sewed the pants together. I added a drawstring and voila! A new pair of pants. I'm an amateur sewer and it took me about 45 minutes.

Has anyone else done this?

If anyone wants more detailed instructions, feel free to ask. I don't have a digital camera but I can give some pretty darn good descriptions if need be. Smiley
32  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Giving Up On Buying Clothes on: September 16, 2004 07:36:32 PM
Ok Ok... I know... this isn't exactly a craft post, but I just had to vent.

All I can say is... argh!!!! Here's why:
I'm in desperate need of new clothes.... I'm working off of like four or five outfits right now. It's sad. Anyway.... so I go online to delias, gap, and old navy to find myself some new threads. Now, until tonight I never really thought myself to be overweight in any way, shape, or form. But, let me tell you... those dumb companies sure do a good job making me feel like a big fat slob. I supposedly qualify for a large to extra large pair of pants or skirt!! Now, I know I've gained weight.. in fact I gained weight on freakin' purpose because I frankly don't go for the emaciated look and the Body Mass Index scale tells me that I'm within a healthy weight range. Yay for me, right? But, those stinkers at the clothing companies are telling me that I'm a large to an extra large!  Angry

Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't a 31" waist and 38" hips perfectly decent?

Oh... the impressionable young mind.  Embarrassed
33  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Another Good Source For Inspiration on: September 16, 2004 06:33:15 PM
Now.. most people have probably heard of this place already, but I wanted to say that Delia's has some pretty cool clothes to give you an inspirational kick in the rear-end. Who said we crafty divas can come up with those wicked ideas exclusively on our own?  Grin

Anyway.....

www.delias.com  Check it out if you haven't been! Especially the hats and bags section!  Smiley
34  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / ideas for a studio? on: September 15, 2004 06:55:21 PM
I recently moved into my first apartment and the boring-ness of the place is just killing me.  Angry

Anyway... I don't have much experience in the home decor craftiness, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and inspiration. I need ideas for an ugly couch, window decoration, and maybe some easy ways to make those room dividers (I live in a studio apartment with one room) like those chinese folding curtains. I don't have much money at all.

Please help!

Thanks.  Smiley
35  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Anthropolgie Nut on: September 10, 2004 02:29:57 PM
I'm a sucker for most anything Anthropolgie, and my dream is to have an entire Anthropolgie-inspired wardrobe! With some hard work.. I think I can do it. Plus... a $50 gift card for JoAnn's does give some motivation.   Cool

Anyway... thanks for letting me share.
