1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / uber warm Noro Kochoran fingerless mitts... on: February 16, 2007 08:50:03 AM
i made these from one ball of noro kochoran cos that was all i could afford at the time but I'm so glad i did cos they are lovely! so warm and soft. i love them. the buttons are super cute too...

ready for gratuitous mitt shots...?

and now for some button porn...

i made them using the thumb gusset off a random free internet pattern and just winged the rest. i had just enough yarn left to sew the buttons on...phew!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / will these felt? on: December 17, 2006 04:36:22 AM
I've got some noro kochoran which is 50% wool, 30% angora and 20% silk
and also some Rowan tapestry that is 70% wool and 30% soybean protein fibre.
my question is will these felt?
thank you!
3  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / olaf the orca on: November 30, 2006 04:14:49 AM
I've posted him in the completed projects and i don't think I'll win but i am very proud of him since he was the very first thing i ever made without a pattern and so i thought why not make him the first challenge entry I've ever done as well? I think he just qualifies as Amigurumi since he's an animal, but he doesn't...."consist of oversized spherical heads on cylindrical bodies with undersized extremities" ....to quote wiki.

Oh well. here he is....

His name is Olaf and he's from Norway but he now resides in Nottingham, England with my friend. And she loves him very much.

Gratuitous close up....

Hope i haven't broke any rules by re-posting him, but I'm sure I'll find out if I have.

His fin can sit up straight as well.

thanks for looking x
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / my big tufty new scarf on: November 26, 2006 01:54:12 PM
i got a bargain!

10 balls of rowan big wool tuft in shiver for 10!!!!
all my scarves are skinny so it was crying out to be made into a big thick scarf. so i did. the colour is actually more like the close up...

it so big and soft and tufty! now i want a matching hat Cheesy does anyone know of any free hat patterns that use a yarn big enough that  i could substitute it with this? it knits up on 15mm needles!

thank you craftsters!
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / i know it isnt original, but..... on: November 21, 2006 05:58:26 AM
yes, i made fetching and yes, i know it isnt original, but look at those yarns! they are so lovely and soft and its the first time i've ever splurged on yarn cos these are for presents and i usually buy really cheap stuff for myself! they were so gorgeous to knit with, i may be in trouble of spending lots of money on yarn in the future!

the grey one is rowan tapestry and its so fuzzy and silky all at once!

the other, which looks grey too but is really a more khaki/olive colour is baby DK from sublime yarns (75% extra fine merino, 20% silk, 5% cashmere!). my favourite...

6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / crochet killer! whale that is... on: November 10, 2006 03:14:03 AM
my friend is a massive fan of orcas. she's been on holiday to watch them and done projects on them at uni. she loves em! so with her birthday comin up i decided i'd be very brave and try to make her a crochet orca...without a pattern!!!!!! i can increase and decrease so i thought why not!

here is the result....

whole whale

head

front view with droopy free-willy-style dorsal

what do you think? and is it still amigurumi? im not sure....
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / hmmm....what to do with this? on: October 22, 2006 02:08:17 PM
got these two bargains on a recent trip to the local charity store

the cone is 500 grams of brushed 4ply mohair and acrylic mix. its suprisingly soft and un-prickly for mohair and it cost me 1! yes, 1!

the blue one is cotton and its really soft, quite chunky and a lovely grey blue. i got two balls of this for 1.50.

a close up of the mohair:

a close up of the cotton:

the thing is, i've never bought yarn without already having a pattern in mind, so i dont have a clue what to do with this lot!
any suggestions?
