2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: uber warm Noro Kochoran fingerless mitts... on: February 16, 2007 09:35:00 AM
Do you remember what site you got that pattern from?  Your mitts are gorgeous!
Ellen
just trawled my computer and cant find it saved anywhere, but knowing me, it was probably from www.knittingpattern central.com
to be honest, any thumb type would work as its really just a stockinette tube with some ribbing at the top and bottom.
i would reccommend this pattern though...www.spunmag.com/article/060421mittens
i may have nicked the flip top from there and their thumb is easy too.

thanks everyone
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / uber warm Noro Kochoran fingerless mitts... on: February 16, 2007 08:50:03 AM
i made these from one ball of noro kochoran cos that was all i could afford at the time but I'm so glad i did cos they are lovely! so warm and soft. i love them. the buttons are super cute too...

ready for gratuitous mitt shots...?

and now for some button porn...

i made them using the thumb gusset off a random free internet pattern and just winged the rest. i had just enough yarn left to sew the buttons on...phew!

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: finished baby things, all from free patterns on: January 07, 2007 05:17:21 AM
hey! sorry for the delay in the reply, christmas hols and all that!
the baby isnt mine and lives a couple of hundred miles away so i don't have any pictures of her wearing it but i think she's too small just yet anyway. the pattern does call for ties but i asked my mums advice (she had three of us in the space of 1 year!) and she said buttons would be much more practical.

hope that helps!

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: will these felt? on: December 17, 2006 05:45:18 AM
yeah, they both do.
i know wool will felt, i just wasn't sure about the angora, silk and soybean stuff.
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / will these felt? on: December 17, 2006 04:36:22 AM
I've got some noro kochoran which is 50% wool, 30% angora and 20% silk
and also some Rowan tapestry that is 70% wool and 30% soybean protein fibre.
my question is will these felt?
thank you!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Difficulty of convertible gloves/mittens? on: November 30, 2006 11:50:03 AM
i only ever use 4 needles in total and avoid 'ladders' by either pulling the first stitch on the needle really tight or by moving my stitches around every so often (if the pattern allows it) so that the end stitches are different. for example i will knit to the end of the needle then before bringing in the new needle, knit the next two stitches then just do this twice more (or 3 times more if you're using 5 needles) so that the stitches on the needles are even again.
does that make sense? it just changes the position where the 'ladder' would be. (hope i havent confused you more!)
