3  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Tungsten! The super cute robot who loves gameboy on: July 14, 2007 04:30:30 PM
This is Tungsten. He loves gameboy, philosophy, and world robot domination!

He is made out of lion brand micro spun, which I really like for stuffed cuties because it is so slippery. This allows you to make very tight stitches, so the stuffing wont show, but the slipperiness makes it easier to pull the hook though the stitches.

"I think, therefore I am..."

4  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Green Eggs and Ham I am!!!! on: May 06, 2007 08:49:34 PM

Green Eggs and Ham!

I will crochet them in a box.
I will crochet them with a fox.
I will crochet them in a house.
I will crochet them with a mouse.
I will crochet them here or there.
I do like them anywhere.
I will crochet green eggs and ham.
For I do love that Seussy man.

Hurray for Dr. Seuss! These cuties are made of %100 cotton yarn with a size E hook. I made up the pattern as I went along, though I was inspired by the Free Little Fried Egg Pattern at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5247521 for the eggs. To make the edges of the eggs uneven I alternated using single, half-double,and double stitches.

I had a great time making them and now they hold a place of honor in our kitchen.

**2011 EDIT**

5  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / He's a good boy! Handbanana from Aqua Teen on: March 16, 2007 06:18:44 AM
I have no idea what compelled me to crochet this diabolical creature, except that he is cute as hell... And my roomates badgered me until I did it.

We love ATHF and we laughed so hard at this episode while feeling so dirty. If you haven't seen it check it out on You Tube.

6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crochet Faux Chanel bag on: March 10, 2007 10:04:29 PM
I laughed hysterically at Craft magazine's article on crocheting imitation designer handbags.  Crafting your own version of super price inflated brand really comments on and subverts the value people place on branding.

Anyway, enough theory, I had to make my own!
I was going to make something really gaudy, but I had a wedding to go to and no evening purse, so I decide to make one to go with my black 50's style dress.
This is based on an actual Chanel bag, though I can't find the picture right now.
You can't tell from the pic but the light yarn is a shiny metalic silver and the black yarn has a nice sheen which really dresses the purse up. It also has metalic silver edging along the seam that doesn't show in the pic.

I did indeed wear it at the wedding and it looked fabulous.

7  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / The Horror!!!! Amigurumi Cthulhu on: March 10, 2007 08:45:05 AM
Amigurumi eats my soul!!!

I thought this little guy was the perfect way to show how amigurumi has taken over my life. I made the pattern up, though I stole the wings from a flying pig pattern I found somewhere on the web.
Tell me you wouldn't mind having this cutie engulf the world in his slimy tentacles.

8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / The forbidden love of Mario, Firepower Mario, and Waluigi. With cute props! on: November 05, 2006 01:34:16 PM

http://photobucket.com/albums/q221/theizz/chainchomp.jpg

This year my boyfriend, roommate, and I decided to do a group Mario Brothers costume. Is it creepy that I'm Mario and my boyfriend is Firepower Mario? Is that insest or masterbation? (He wanted to be Wario, but we couldn't find purple pants that fit him  Sad.)
Anyway, I sewed my overalls out of a pair of scrubs, Fire Mario's out of white dickies and a sheet, and Luigi's were maternity overalls that I altered to fit. The buttons and the hat emblems are all made of felt. Waluigi's hat was a cop hat we covered in felt and Fire Mario's hat was spray painted white.
But I think our greatest achievements were our props!
The mushroom and chain chomp were carved out of Styrofoam, hot glued, and painted. For chain chomp's chain, we bought a decorative Styrofoam chain halloween decoration from CVS, then straighted out a wire hanger and glued it to the chain and chomps head so that Luigi could walk him like a dog. Finally, we filled Fire Mario's question box with gold wrapped Candies that he gave out to anyone who would punch his box.
We had the BEST time making these costumes together and they were a hit at the costume party we went to. (Also, they were the most confortable Halloween costume I
have ever worn.) Hope you like them!
