1  Re: Lap Quilts For All Swap: Round 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by glittergirl94 on: January 28, 2009 03:57:54 AM
Wow!  These lap quilts are super beautiful....but what is a lap quilt?  I'm assuming it's smaller than a normal quilt, but...do you just put them on your lap while watching tv or something along those lines...reading a book, etc???

Exactly!  The last round I made two for my kids for Christmas and they're perfect!

And that's without any sashing between blocks... they could be much bigger if you wanted...  I love them and so do my littles.  It's a great first quilting project!  And this is such a fun way to do it!

I've finished my group two quilt!!!!   And even though it's nowhere near perfect... I am just sooo wicked pleased!

The front.

The back.

This is the first quilt I have actually quilted and finished myself.  I've tied quilts and I've had others bind them for me.  In hind sight I think I should have done a stitch in the ditch quilting rather than the diagonals... and I was lazy and used my machine to do the binding rather than blind stitch it by hand(my hand sewing sucks big time!).

A big thank you to athenamat, audrey1999, flashleyashley, 1boy1girl1kitty2, MissDisney, j_q_adams, ritapizza, klum78, SewHelpMe, and Jenicat for making my son's quilt so awesome!

I've finished it!!!!!!  It's so not perfect but I love it just the same.  It'll be a gift for my mom...

I prefer a fatter, puffier quilt so I'll just add ties later.  I used two layers of batting for extra puff.  My mom's always cold so this should keep her a bit warmer.

I figure tying in the middle of each block should do nicely.  My great grandmother was a quilter and always tied her quilts with yarn.  After a few washings the ties were just small balls of puff that were always a comfort to fiddle with while snuggled up.

Thank you to athenamat, 1boy1girl1kitty2, ChristianTrekki, Tsuki_Tsubasa, MissDisney, lourapalmr, mimiw, Stafishtaylz, thanate, FlashleyAshley, and klum78 for making this quilt so wicked cool!
Round Three's quilts are next!  And yes, that is my son's purple hair in the bottom right corner of the first picture...  Grin

And I loved the first one so much that I decided to make another!  My sister loved to too so this one is for her daughter...  Here's a progress pic:

Here's the finished back piece.  I'm using Vanna's Choice again, this time in Dusty Purple and the letter (also a J) will be white.  I'll post more progress pictures as I go... I'm half way done with the front.

Thanks everyone!  Yes, I am thrilled with them...  My son's quilt is just perfect; his favorite color is red and the browns and tans are just so him...

My daughter's is a little busier than I thought it would be but then again, so is she...

I can't wait for Christmas Morning!  Thanks again everyone!

6  Drawstring Backpack in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by glittergirl94 on: November 30, 2008 03:23:52 PM
I made this today for a friend.

Outside, all closed up.

Inside, completely lined and with pockets.

Open, lying flat.

It was fairly simple, only took me an afternoon.  I'm sure the next time I make one it'll go quicker.  The bottom and strap loops are made with a black canvas for added strength.  The rest is cotton.  I love the contrast the pink adds.  I used this tute, although I modified it a bit to use the two fabrics on the outside and I do not have a grommet press.

Thanks for looking!

12/2 ~ I sent all of my fabric packs out!

12/13 ~ I've received all 36 fabric packs!

For my squares(my printer died and I wasn't able to stick a note in with my packets); all three groups are for quilts for my nieces.  Please try to use all four fabrics, if not please make sure you use the white.  Thanks!

Well... I've received all my blocks, except for AJAndersons...  I have mixed feelings about the whole situation; frustrated because we all managed to get our blocks done and returned(grrrrr...), but also concerned that something serious has happened to her or her family.  We may never know... So, because my quilts are Christmas gifts for my kids, I pawed through my scraps and made replacement squares.

For my daughter's quilt.

And for my son's quilt.  Now, I'm working on getting the quilt tops together(as well as the quilt from round two, I posted a pic, go check it out!!).  Thank you everyone for helping me create such wonderful gifts for my kids!!!  =)

10  A messenger and a tote... in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by glittergirl94 on: November 02, 2008 11:50:18 AM
Nothing fancy... no zippers, no buttons or snaps, no adjustable straps... just to very straight forward bags for swaps over at Ravelry.  First, a small knitting project tote:

With a small pocket for stitch markers, yarn needles, cable needles, or other notions.

The bag is reversible (the pocket can be on the inside or outside, which ever is more convenient) and has a nice short handle so it hangs nicely off the wrist so you can knit while wandering about...  Perfect for a pair of in-progress socks!  Both the pink skull fabric and the maroon fabric are 100% cotton.

The messenger has two compartments on the inside and pockets on each outer wall...

I designed (per request) it to hold a knitting project and purse/lunch stuff.

The strap is nice and long and can be knotted to shorten it.  And the front flap falls completely over the front, even when it's full (shown with three rather large skeins of yarn inside).

The black fabric is a sturdier canvas type and the lining is a Mary Englebright cherry print on 100% cotton.

Thanks for looking!  Comments and critique welcome!
