So i've been dying to try to make a clutch but i don't want to use the expensive fabric and mess it up so i decided to make a few cotton one to take it for a test drive ill let you know some tips at the end so on to the pics.
first cut out a pattern peice it needs to be at lest 1 1/2 times the length of how the bag is actually going to be* newspaper, brown paper get it from the dollar store or use those circulation things you always get but never use*
something like so you only need half a pattern piece seeing as you can cut on fold on the straight line to the left. cut out ONE piece. then pleat it till it fits ur fancy. what i did is sew it half way down the pleats so that they stay. after pleating it should be the size of your actual bag plus seam allowance
Next lay the pleated piece on the fabric to cut out the back of the bag. * iron pleated fabric b4* it might be a little round but PIN and cut. be very careful because it needs to be precise. if using lining cut out 2 pieces from the outer unpleated fabric you just cut out. sew the to outer to the zipper
i know you see those tabs at the sides there, i wouldn't recommend doing it it's a disaster unless you added triangle panels. nextat the lining to the other side
open the zipper and sew the 2 outer rite sides 2gether *include the zipper parts, not the metal of course* and when you sew the 2 lining leave about 4 inches unsewed in the middle Note: make sure you leave the opening in the lining if u do it in the outer 2 you know you have to close it back and it wont look that pretty.
anyways turn it inside out, sew up the lining and VOILA ur done
me crooked zipper
If you do make one post the pics i would love to see it
