1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Re: beaded Chinese thimble-catcher on: December 31, 2006 10:16:09 AM
The actual thimble catcher part is about 2 inches tall. I'm not sure how long it took me. Maybe around 10 hours, but definitely a few episodes of the evil liberal propaganda network, lol
Thanks madness Smiley
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / beaded Chinese thimble-catcher on: December 30, 2006 10:59:52 PM

This piece was for my sister for Christmas. The Chinese character means "happiness". I wrote a little making of post  that can be viewed here: http://www.beadcircle.com/blog/?p=109. She loves Oriental designs and patterns, and the colors red and black. Ive made her some beaded jewelry in the past, but I wanted to make her something really special. When I saw this design, I knew it was meant for her. I changed the color scheme, and designed the fringe and neckstrap. It is done in tubular peyote stitch with size 11/0 Japanese delica seed beads. The lid slides on and off. I call it the Pursuit of Happiness Smiley

I hope you decide to de-lurk more often because that braclet is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

the texture/design rocks! I love how you can spend hours and hours on something and then just give it away like its nothing when the person is worth it. I spent hours on my sister's gift and she really appreciates my beadwork, and its satisfying. Others that don't get gift cards, lol Smiley Lovely, lovely work! Thanks for sharing!

Peyote is a kind of stitch that creates a brick pattern. 2 drop is when you use 2 beads at a time intead of one bead at a time.
Here's a link to a animated tutorial about how to do it Smiley

Hope this helps!
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / "Tool" and Checkered Lighter Covers on: December 13, 2006 09:11:21 AM

Here are the lighter covers I've been working on. The black and white one was done in 2 drop peyote, so the process of making it went quickly. It's my prototype in a way, but I also couldn't part with it. The "tool" lighter was a commission by a friend of my fiance. He's a fan of the band and wanted one too. I had to use regular peyote to make the letters look right. I got $20 for it though Smiley and I like challenges!

Wow I really like the layout of elements and colors Smiley It looks awesome! I'm going to get back into ATCs after the new year. Right now I'm busy working on stuff for a show plus making gifts. I add a lot of beaded elements to mine; maybe we can swap in the future... Grin
