Holy crap, that is unbelievably awesome. Amazing piecework. I could NEVER sew pieces so small and long so STRAIGHT! So very inspirational (though as I said, NEVER! but I can dream!).

What about something like collage glue (mod podge or other decoupage stuff) to glue them together? The ones at brightlightslittlecity are super shiny-shelacked to make them fire retardant, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to start out with a solid layer of glue of some sort.

I'd like to try this using a mold (maybe a big bowl or even a fitness ball to make a big inverted hugs-the-ceiling one for our dining room) so the framework won't show when it's lit, ala paper mache. If it was solid enough, all it would need is a circular hard plastic edge at it's widest part. Hmmm. Suggestions?
