21  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: How can I make this scarf without DPNs? on: October 01, 2007 10:37:07 AM
I'll echo the sentiment that there is no reason you can't try DPN's just because you are a 'beginner'...they are only tricky for the first round or so and with all the resources available on the web (knittinghelp.com, of course, has a video on how to use DPN's), there is absolutely no reason you can't give it a try. Just make sure you knit the first stitch on each needle VERY tightly and you'll be fine.

So what's up with this whole invite business anyway? Is it because they're still new-ish and don't want to overload their site?

Because it's still in the Beta phase, so they want to gradually let everyone in so that they can work out all the kinks and bugs before opening to the public.

Gentle reminders are nice!

Yes, I agree! I have done that as the sender before, but I felt really bad doing so (like I was assuming that they wouldn't), and in that instance, the recipient assured me that it might take some time, but they would do it. However, time passed and it never happened.

I have participated in many swaps and it seems a lot of the time, for me at least, my downstream partner either forgets to post pictures in the swap gallery or just doesn't. I end up posting the pictures myself, which is fine, I guess, but for me, I often forget to take pictures in my excitement to send.

I understand that people get busy and forget to post pictures, which is why  I want to suggest that we put a suggestion on the document "how to be an organizer" or whatever that says to keep track of the pictures that have been posted or haven't been posted, so if pictures aren't posted, they can make a gentle reminder or note it in the feedback.

I've organized swaps before and after the person sent, I considered them done and figured the picture posting was up to them and their partner, but like I said, sometimes people forget Smiley

We should make a group for Craftsters on Ravelry.

ETA: NM, there already is one! I've joined!

Thanks, Poprock, for the better photos! Still lovin' the stitch markers!

Yep, I did go by the measurements. Now, I will be blocking before seaming, so that will obviously help a little. I was thinking the same thing about the measurements, too. Hmm...

Ok, so to answer your question, mine does seem a tad bit small, but when I stretch the ribbing out, it seems ok. What part are you knitting that seems small? Remember that the button band will add some inches in the front.

Did you go by the measurements in the pattern? I've heard that it 'runs small', but I don't understand how a knitting pattern can run small, because the measurements are there.

I read Ravelry while at work, too. SHhhhhh.....don't tell my boss!

I'm about 1" in at the moment...but it would be irresponsible to continue (don't drink and knit, right?). I'm using Malabrigo in the Olive color - LOVE it!

An entire cardigan in Malbrigo!? You are so very lucky! This is a really quick knit, you're going to fly through it. I can't wait to see it!
