I loved the movie "Despicable Me" and the minions are so darn cute that I just had to make one.  There are 2 crochet patterns for minions on Ravelry.  I sort of followed one, but made several adjustments.  I made this one for a friend and coworker, but the next one is for me and then I'll make one for my daughter.

My teen daughter had told me that I had never made her an afghan and God forbid, if I should die, she wouldn't have an afghan to remember me by!  (she was joking, of course!)  She requested a Star-shaped afghan in rainbow colors, separated by black.  She loves bright colors!

This is BIG....it measures 50 inches from the center to the star point.  Even with the odd star shape, two people can snuggle under it very easily. 

I used Simply Soft yarn.  I did 6 rows of each color, separated by 2 rows of black.  It is done in double crochet.

It took me FOREVER to finish this because with all the double crochet it got a bit boring.  But it is done now and I when my time comes to die, my darling daughter will have a very nice blanket to remember me by!

Many of you fellow Craftsters have seen my first rainbow scarf, seen here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=248500.msg2754580#msg2754580 .  I've enjoyed seeing the rainbow scarves that everyone has made.


Here is my second version of the Rainbow Scarf, complete with a Pot O'Gold on one end and the standard clouds on the other end.  This scarf is done with 2 strands of the sport weight yarn because my daughter wanted a heavier, thicker scarf.  I created the "pot" (it's a simple circle with a rim) and then raided my button box for all the goldtone buttons I could find.  The buttons were only sewn on one side of the scarf for 2 reasons:  the scarf was getting heavy from the buttons I had all ready sewn, and I ran out of goldtone buttons!

As soon as my teen daughter saw this scarf, she HAD to have it. I ordered the pattern in the fall of 2007 from here:  http://www.fablehandmadegoods.com .  Yes, it is now January 2009 and I finally finished it last night!  It wasn't difficult at all.  It was very monotonous making leaf after leaf after leaf!  I modified the pattern a bit, making it much longer and added more leaves and acorns.  Plus, I changed the leaf colors a bit so it would be more colorful.  I also modified the acorn pattern and made the stem and cap all one piece. I also used 2 strands of yarn, since 1 strand was very thin and flimsy.  Enough chatting, here is the scarf!

She wore it while out shopping today and in less than 20 minutes, five people had complimented her on the scarf, and one person even stopped her to talk about the scarf!

Thanks to a fellow Craftster who posted her crocheted toilet paper she made for her sister! I decided to make a toilet paper scarf for my teen daughter.  She loves scarves!!  She received many comments when she wore this to school!  

The roll is plastic needlepoint canvas and I did needlepoint on one side that would become the inside of the roll, and then used a brown yarn to crochet a "sheet" that covered the outside of the roll.  

I think 18 "sheets" make up this scarf.  It loosely wraps around her neck and then both ends hang at her waist.

I don't understand how you can sleep at night when you take someone else's patterns and call them your own and sell them for a profit!***

I made this scarf a few months ago after seeing one like it online for $50!! (picture below)  I knew I could make if for way less than that!  My teen daughter loves rainbows and I made this for her.  The scarf is double crochet.  The clouds are made up of 5 double crochet circles sew together.  The clouds are on the front and back of the scarf so if the scarf is tossed about in the wind or whatever, there is no front or back, or good side or bad side, or right side or wrong side.

My teen daughter volunteered my crochet services to one of her friends who needed an Ipod cover/pouch. My daughter liked the cases in The Happy Hooker book, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out what the pattern was telling me to do for the front face part and the pocket. I did the clear vinyl part just fine, but I did my own thing for the monkey face and the inner pocket. There is a full pocket between the back clear vinyl cover and the face, so you can put your ear buds in there. I also added a short handle to make carrying a bit easier. Here are the pictures. Oh, her friend LOVED it! I do too! I hated to give it up, but I don't have an Ipod!

Maybe this doesn't qualify as a "craft" but it sure was a cheap and neat idea that my 14 y/o daughter came up with!!  We bought a food tent (you use it to place over food to keep the bugs off at an outdoor picnic; looks sorta like a small umbrella without the center pole!) at our local Dollar Tree.  It isn't the plastic food tents, but it is a fabric/heavy paper type of material.  It has screen on one side.  On a fabric side, we cut a slit across the bottom, just ABOVE the bottom hem (leaving the bottom hem intact so it all holds it shape) and in the center of that slit, cut a slit from there straight up to within an inch of the center top. This makes an opening with 2 "doors" or tent flaps.  We now have a cute cat tent that our one cat LOVES to hide in!!
