evilSabina, when you find the elves, please PM me with their contact information!

My compromise is that I do major messy crafting only at certain times, when I can be assured that nobody's coming over who hasn't already seen the explosion, and when I have a freezer full of prepped meals so I don't have to stop to cook. None of that has been true lately.

Must. Craft. Ya'll are making me jealous!

Why,on a roll, at Hancock Fabrics, of course!

It's longer than that, actually, and comes with a BUNCH of the metal zipper pull things, so you can customize your own zippers!

Funny that YOU read it but he didn't! We both did, and now she listens to it when she's drawing. She loves The Book Thief!

Oh, yeah. The parents are the ones who put the kids at risk, right?

Apples and trees.

(At my first teaching job--fresh from grad school--I was OLDER than many of the moms of my 6-7-8th graders. Sad )

What a great question...what do the men want?!!!

We usually give a gift card to something--the sandwich shop next door, etc--to any male teachers, though this y ear I think they'd have gotten some supplies, too.

koolcreativity--I'm glad a note is welcome in the higher grades. I wrote the usual mom thank you note, but my DD wrote specific thank you notes to each teacher, telling exactly what she liked and would remember about them/their class. (I have my box of notes upstairs, too, saved from day one of teaching!) She's considering teaching English herself, and some of these particular teachers helped put that idea in her head!

I really like the idea of a gift card to a book store! I tried to get DD to help make gifts, but she had multiple AP exams, ACT, etc. and kept meaning to do something...!

Thanks for the great ideas!

Oooh nooooo....I feel another craft coming on! Roll Eyes

Thanks for showing me...these are GREAT! (And would be SO cool if the teacher has a motto all the kids know!)

I guess the tradeoff for not having to deal with runny noses is no gifts?! Wink When the kids were in elementary, I used to do a classwide "needs" list...interview the teacher about wants/needs for her classroom (plus a few personal preferences like lotion, gum, etc.) and pass it out to all the kids. I did it through the first year in middle school, then the PTA took it over and all the teachers get it now. (THere was honestly some serious jealousy that some teachers were getting TONS of "just right" gifts while the others were getting practially nothing. Odd.)

The high-school teachers' interaction is nearly 100% with the student (not parent), so I just went with what I used to love...classroom supplies. (My husband said we got a raise when I quit teaching...I now spend that money on craft supplies, so I'm not sure he's right...!)

Wish your DH "Happy Summer" from me!
