11  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Does your boy like dresses? How about a kilt? on: July 12, 2010 12:34:17 PM
My assumption is that, for ease of diapering, people kept dressing baby boys in gowns until snaps were invented and it occurred to someone to put them in the crotches and legs of baby clothes.

I suspect that long dresses on babies were a deliberate attempt to keep them relatively immobile in a time when open fires were used for heat and cooking.

Snaps and buttons and crotches came alone (cooincidentally?) with safer stoves and electric lights.

14  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Anyone seen this fabric? on: July 12, 2010 12:14:06 PM
I LOVE that pattern. It's marked as a dressing gown (something that elegant can't possibly be a housecoat) but I see it knee length, and as a dress.

Good luck with the fabric hunt. I'll keep my eyes open.

gigantic headwrap in undescribably delicious fabric (this thing is about seven feet long!)- the most comfortable headgear I have ever owned. I may never leave the house without it again.

 ((Belladune))

That's fabulous. And so flattering! 7 feet long and HOW WIDE?

I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Now if I could only see that missing pattern piece....

I'm here, and crafting.

AND starting a new job today, AND getting ready for in-laws to visit

but mostly crafting.

Really and truely, a medium and a small is IT?

I am a real sewing novice and would love constructive criticism.

My constructive criticism? I love it. You have a real eye for layout. And excellent skills.
Keep constructing!

BTW, I've been sewing forever.
