2  Conor Oberst Doll ****Creepy IMG Heavy**** in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Arienette on: August 05, 2008 08:03:26 PM
Hello everyone.

*I don't sculpt or sew and I've never made a doll, so be kind!*

I've been preparing for today for the past few weeks.  Today Conor Oberst of the band Bright Eyes released his first solo album since ~'96, and to prepare I made a 12" model of Conor himself.  I finished him this morning before *we* headed off to the record store.  I usually paint pictures of Conor, but thought that I'd do something different to mark the occasion.

He is made from painted Sculpty, some linen, stuffing, thread, love, and **cough**human hair**cough**my hair**cough**

He comes complete with a handle of Jack Daniels.

Clothes--knitted sweater (I made up the pattern as I went along) and jeans made from a favorite old pair.

I feel creepy undressing him...let alone making him in the first place...but here is the construction:

His right leg has "Waste of Paint" embroidered on it (I've never done any embroidery--a lot of firsts in this project!)

And a little closer shot of his head:

What do you think?  Spare me the lecture of how unhealthy my obsession has become.  It was fun and I'm pretty proud of it even if it may not look exactly like him...think 1997 and squint your eyes?

3  "Pretty Birds" Moving Gift in Completed Projects by Arienette on: May 12, 2008 11:56:03 AM
Hi everyone!

This is a small "I'm moving" gift for a good neighbor-friend of mine.  He has a bird, too, so I thought he would appreciate this.

I bought two plaster bird figures from Micheal's and painted them (with a modification to the parakeet's cere.)  I had been collecting my birds' feathers, so I made small holes in the plaster after I painted and glued some into place (I thought Kayla's crest feathers came out well!).  I sealed everything with matte Mod-Podge after mounting it to a wood platform I had lying around.  Here are the results:

Kayla again:

Kyle is a little camera shy... Smiley

I hope he likes it!

4  Standard record sleeve-->journal in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Arienette on: January 11, 2007 12:35:43 PM
Hi.  I know this has been done before...but I found a neat record sleeve and I made it into a journal.  It's my first journal...I hope you guys like it.  (It originally said "Calypso Holiday", but it would not all fit  Sad .)  I kind of made it up as I went along, but I think I used pretty much the standard book-making technique.

I made another one, but it's not as good...They are both pretty sturdy, though.

Thank you for looking.
