11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Shirt + Mens' Trousers = Dress on: November 23, 2009 12:22:46 PM
I started studying clothing this autumn. One of the first classes was reconstructing. I bought a black shirt and blue striped men's trousers from a thrift store (and supported animal shelter). The shirt was a little too small for me and the trousers were huge. I didn't have a plan when I bought them, I just needed material to work with at school. Very quickly I got an idea of a dress. And here's the finished product.

I cut out the sleeves and upper part of the shirt and turned it backwards. I also made it more closefitting by cutting some fabric from the sides and making darts. Then I cut all the seams off the trousers and made the bottom part (is it called lap?) and straps. Here's what it looks like from behind.

I saved the back pocket of the trousers and used it as a pocket on left side.

And here's what I started with.

14  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / May 2008 Birthday Swap *Closed* on: April 23, 2008 03:46:29 AM
PLEASE READ ALL RULES BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR INFO

ALL BIRTHDAY BABES WHO POST A BIRTHDAY WISH LIST MUST FULFILL A BIRTHDAY WISH OF AT LEAST ONE FELLOW BIRTHDAY BABE.  In other words, if you post a list and receive a gift, you must send at least one gift.  Non-birthday craftsters may still send "unconditionally".  Unconditionally in this swap means if someone fulfills one of your birthday wishes, you will send them a thank you note via snail mail.  PM's or thank you posts do not count as thank you notes.  Negative feedback will be given for those who post lists and receive, but never send. Please read below for the exact details.  They are in BOLD.

DO NOT POST YOUR LIST UNTIL I SEND YOU A PM SAYING TO DO SO

Swap name: May 2008 Birthday Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: heini

FOR POSTING BIRTHDAY LISTS Sign-up date range: 04/23/08-05/31/08
FOR CHOOSING A BIRTHDAY WISH TO FULFILL Sign-up date range: 04/23/08-05/31/08
DATE TO SEND ITEMS BY:  2 weeks after you claim someone unless other arrangements are made ahead of time

Limited to a certain number of people?: No.
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? No.
All ages allowed.

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:  This swap was organized so everyone can get something crafty for their birthday!  Please read the guidelines carefully.

    * If your birthday is in May, then you can post your birthday wish list for this month. To do that, you must first PM me with the Swap questionnaire filled out.
    * Once you have been approved, you may post your list of things that you would want to receive.  You can have as many items on your list as you want to, but the minimum is 5. The more you have, the better are the chances to get claimed.  Please try to have a good mix of items on your list.  The last wish you will post is "a surprise."  Then you will post a bio about yourself, including where you are from and what day your birthday is.
    * Please post lists only.  No discussion on this thread please.
    * Everyone will then go through the lists and choose a craftster they want to send a birthday gift to.  Your birthday does not have to be in May for you to craft for someone!  If you want to choose someone, just PM me with your info (including your address, please), who you want to craft for, what item, and I will send you their address.
    * When you choose to fulfill a birthday wish, PM BOTH ME (heini) AND THE PERSON YOU CHOOSE. After that you have 2 weeks to get the item out the door unless you communicate in advance that something will take a bit longer.  If two weeks pass, and I don't hear anything from youyou guessed it, negative feedback!
    * Each person can be chosen unlimited times! Every thime when you get a PM that you've been chosen, you must choose a fellow May babe and send her a present. Failure to do  this will result in NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.
    * It is super important for everyone to keep good communication.  It is required that when you send, let me know, and of course, don't forget the DC#.  It is required that when you receive, let me know and publicly announce in the gallery (even if you don't have pictures).
    * Thank you cards aren't recuired this year, but it is very nice and polite to send a thank you card after you receive a present. Especially if the sender is a non-birthday swapper.
    * You can choose to craft for as many people as you like, but you cannot "owe" more than 3 things.  If you are a newbie and this is your first swap, you must successfully send once before choosing again.
    * REMEMBER THAT YOU WON'T NECESSARILY GET AS MUCH PRESENTS AS YOU SEND. IT'S ALSO POSSIBLE THAT NOBODY CLAIMS YOU. In that case, you WON'T get an angel. The angels replace only flakers and lost packages.
    * Please state at the beginning of your list where you are located.  Some people absolutely cannot send to people overseas for any number of reasons.  We need to respect this valid concern.
*When one of your items is chosen, please cross it out so that it is easier for others to see what has been chosen.  It wouldn't hurt to thank the person at this time either.

If you have any more questions or suggestions, you can send me a PM with "May Birthday Swap " in the subject line.

15  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Crazy Quilted Bag on: March 12, 2008 08:06:25 AM
I needed a bigger bag/purse and had lot of fabric scraps, so I made a crazy quilt bag. Some of the fabrics are leftover scraps from other projects, some are recycled fabric pieces and some I have received in scrap fabric swap. It's embellished with embroidering, beads, buttons and other stuff.

Here's the bag.

And here's some details.

I bought the dragon fly from Rome last autumn.

Cute little buttons that alteredmommy sent me in May.
16  EUROPE / GERMANY / What to do in Berlin? on: February 05, 2008 01:48:36 AM
Me and some of my work mates are going to Poland in the beginning of March, but on our way there we're going to spend a day in Berlin. There will be 3 craft teachers and 4 other crafty people in our group. I don't think we'd be very interested in shopping, more like visiting a craft museum or learning something about German craft culture. Or just being tourists and sight seeing. Unfortunately the wall is pretty much everything I know about Berlin.
17  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Crazy quilt pouch on: December 25, 2007 08:16:09 AM
I made this zippered pouch for my mom for a present. She had told me that she needs a pouch in which she could keep her wallet, keys and other smaller things, so she wouldn't lose them inside her big bag.

Since I love crazy quilting, I decided to make her a crazy quilt pouch.

The materials are from my stash, some of those are received from other craftsters. At least babbetto, alteredmommy, RubyTuesday and kaisa have sent me supplies that I used in this project. Thanks ladies! And I'm sorry if I forgot someone.
18  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / My first maze book on: December 25, 2007 03:49:33 AM
I wanted to try to make a maze book. My sister's birthday was a great reason to make one. The book is about her, her friends and the bands they love. Making it was the most fun thing that I've done lately and she likes it.

The text in the book is a song "Rokkithti" by band called Ne Luumet. It's ramopunk and the lyrics tell about a guy who lives to see a rock star. Perfect for this book.

Here's the cover. The girls on the picture are my sister and her friends.

The first page.

Another page. On the left my sister and her friends in front of the stage waiting for a gig to start. On the right my sister and on of her idols.

And behind her and her idol is a picture of the girls in Nightwish's studio.

"I'm so happy, I'll see the rockstar"

19  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Booze card for my sister on: December 25, 2007 03:33:34 AM
In the past the Finnish alcohol stores gave their customers "booze cards" to control how much people drink. Every time one bought something, it was marked on the card and the card could be taken away if someone was buing booze too often.

The cards haven't been in use for nearly 40 years, but now the alcohol stores have new booze cards where you can mark how much you drink if you think you might be drinking too much.

My sister turned 18 today, so I decided that she needed a booze card. Not because she drinks so much, but because she's now allowed to drink.
I used the front of the a booze card, altered it a bit and wrote in the card that I will buy her a drink tonight at the bar.

20  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Felted skull holders on: December 25, 2007 03:20:04 AM
I was planning to give my sister a NBC themed present, but it became a black and skully present. The most important thing to change theme was the skull holders in the Happy Hooker.
I used black and white yarn and felted them in washing machine. I'm very pleased with the result. Here they are.
