1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Super Hallowe'en Costume on: November 13, 2007 07:39:34 AM
It seems people would be interested in the pattern, so I think I'm going to work on something.  If it gets anywhere I'll edit again to post a link to the pattern.

Thanks for the support!

O...... My...... Gosh.  I think that could be one of the most clever knits to date.  And that baby.... makes my uterus hurt.  Great job!

LOL thank you!

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful comments!

I've already told you how much I love the costume and your son is beautiful of course. I think a lot of people would pay for a pattern (I would if I had kids to knit for). The only thing I don't know is if there's some sort of copyright attached to the Superman costume/logo. Does anyone know if she could legally sell a Superman pattern?

If I was to work it up and sell or publish it in any way, I would alter the shield shape and design some other logo to go inside...don't want to take a chance on any lawsuit!

What a great idea!  Wearing it with the fluff in must be so warm, perfect for tucking into your coat in the winter.  I must have one!  How many balls did it take?

Totally a "this rocks" hit!  First off, the baby is ADORABLE!!!  I can hardly get over the cuteness of this costume.  When I opened the post up I almost spewed my coffee on my computer screen over the supreme cuteness of the baby IN the costume!!

LOL thank you!  I have to admit my hubby helped with the making of the baby though.  Smiley

That is so cute!  It kinda reminds me of one of the monsters from the movie Labyrinth.  Good job!

OMG I am a huge mushy romantic and LOVE this box!  What a unique thing to leave on a dresser or tucked away in a drawer.  You can even make one for a hope chest to hold wedding jewelry.  Bonus points if you use actual love letters!

Thank you!  I did make him wear it all day so he'd get the most use out of it, and he really seemed to brighten people's day when we went mall-walking.  Luckily I made it about an inch too long in the arms and legs, and a few inches too wide, so he will still be able to wear it for Purim.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Super Hallowe'en Costume on: November 01, 2007 07:56:03 PM

Here's my son Jakob in his SuperBaby costume.  I wanted to make him something special for his first Hallowe'en!  It is knit using King Cole Smooth DK and is one piece with snap tape up the back.  The cape is detatchable and held on with buttons that slip through the knitted stitches, since I didn't want to use velcro that would show when the cape was removed.

I began on October 4th and finished early in the morning on the 31st.  The entire costume was hand made and I designed the pattern as I went along.

I hope you like it, I am so proud of it!

Jennifer.

Edited to add: Thanks to everyone for the incredibly sweet and generous comments!  To answer some questions: Jakob is 5 1/2 months old.  I worked on it mainly when he was in bed at night, which occassionally meant I was stuck waiting for morning to continue because I needed to try it on him before I could proceed.

If there's anything else you want to know just ask or you can visit me at my blog, or email me at jeloca[at]sympatico[dot]ca

Thanks!

Edited a second time to add:
I don't know if this is allowed, so if I'm breaking a Craftster rule please let me know privately and I'll remove this part of the post.

Can I ask the people who view this post...would you pay for a pattern for a baby's superhero costume?  There is no pattern yet, so I'm not soliciting for sales here.  I'm just wondering if it would be worth my time to work up a pattern and figure out more sizes, maybe from 6 months to 18 months.  Would this be the type of pattern you wouldn't mind spending a few dollars on, or something you'd expect to be a free pattern?  I'd love to know what you think or if there would even be a demand for a pattern of this type.  (Maybe I'm the only one crazy enough to knit a full-body costume?)

Thank you!

I like this!  I was thinking of making one of these for myself.
