Well, it took me about a year and a half, but I finally finished!
My sister-in-law (who I live with) is Mexican and loves Mexican folk art and she wanted me to paint 4 doors in her house. I got a little burnt out on this project, but I am so happy that they are finished and I'm quite proud of them.
This if the first door that I painted and is now the bathroom door. It's called La Sirena or the mermaid. This image is similar to the one found in Loteria cards.

Next up is my sister-in-laws door, called La Catrina.
Here's a little history about Catrina. "From the ancient cultures that were established in the Valle de México to the mexicas, every civilization has taken a very special interest in death. It wasn’t sadness or pain, but a mystical influence – magical in the way that it became a friend, a faithful confidante, a mysterious conqueror.
Jose Guadalupe Posada gave it a face, with a sarcastic, ironic touch. It was through his art that the Catrina and later the Calaca were born. Both feminine personalities are famous icons of death and the top creations of Posada." Also, I have been told that Posada created Catrina as a way of mocking high society by telling them that even though they are rich, they too will die some day.

The third door is the door to my room that I share with my boyfriend. This is a Day of the Dead version of The Virgin Mary.

And last is my nephew's door. Luchadores or Mexican wrestlers.
