1  UNITED STATES / Maryland / Frederick area crafters? on: December 05, 2009 01:12:47 PM
I just moved here and I'd love to meet new people! I sew, quilt, paint, just learned to knit, and pretty much all things crafty. Anyone else nearby?

There is a place in or near DC (I just moved here and my friends drove us there) called Community Forklift. There is a Habitat for Humanity Restore in Frederick too.

My friend got it today and she LOVES it!! Yay!  I was terrified that it would get ruined or lost in the mail and I'd have to start all over again.   Wink

Ooooh - I've used that fur before, its no picnic to work with, and SO messy!! That quilt is adorable though - your friend is lucky. I *heart* classic Pooh  Grin

They are little - about 11 inches square I think. I started with a 12 inch square, but lost some of that to hemming and trimming. But I figure smaller is better when it comes to having a security blanket - I figure they are more portable and kid-sized that way.

But it is patchwork! Smiley  A friend of mine wanted a security blanket for a baby shower gift, so I made her this:

It worked our great - she wanted something yellow, and not too girly, and I had a huge stash of yellow scraps I was saving for something-yet-to-be-determined. I love it when things work out  like that. The ribbons are a mix of satin, velvet and textured, and the fabric is quilting cotton, and its all backed with soft and squishy off-white chenille. It's not a perfect patchwork, thats deliberate - I wanted to just sew the pieces together as they were, and see what happened, and I rather like the slightly wonky look of it - I think it's cute Smiley The purple one was for the same friend, she wanted that one to be girly and purple, and I didn't piece it because I liked the butterfly fabric just as it was.

It will be framed. I think she wants to display it on her table at jewelry shows.

I made this for a friend - she gave me some of the beads and a suggestion of the color scheme, and I ran with it. Thats her jewelry business logo in the middle, and she said she wanted beachy greens and blues and sandy colors. I raided my own bead stash to really embellish it and I *love* how it came out! I'm mailing it to her tomorrow, and I hope she loves it too. What do you think?
