1  Not quite a quilt... in Quilting: Completed Projects by AutoXchick on: July 07, 2008 03:59:22 PM
But it is patchwork! Smiley  A friend of mine wanted a security blanket for a baby shower gift, so I made her this:

It worked our great - she wanted something yellow, and not too girly, and I had a huge stash of yellow scraps I was saving for something-yet-to-be-determined. I love it when things work out  like that. The ribbons are a mix of satin, velvet and textured, and the fabric is quilting cotton, and its all backed with soft and squishy off-white chenille. It's not a perfect patchwork, thats deliberate - I wanted to just sew the pieces together as they were, and see what happened, and I rather like the slightly wonky look of it - I think it's cute Smiley The purple one was for the same friend, she wanted that one to be girly and purple, and I didn't piece it because I liked the butterfly fabric just as it was.

2  Embroidered and beaded crazy quilt square in Needlework: Completed Projects by AutoXchick on: July 01, 2008 10:51:15 PM

I made this for a friend - she gave me some of the beads and a suggestion of the color scheme, and I ran with it. Thats her jewelry business logo in the middle, and she said she wanted beachy greens and blues and sandy colors. I raided my own bead stash to really embellish it and I *love* how it came out! I'm mailing it to her tomorrow, and I hope she loves it too. What do you think?

3  Re: Baby Sling? in Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions by AutoXchick on: October 15, 2007 07:32:04 PM
I made one a couple of weeks ago using the directions from the sleeping baby site she listed up above^^^  It was really easy, and came out gorgeously. Just double stitch all your seams, I tripled stitched the seams, just to be sure. ALso, do NOT use cheap rings! I can't stress it enough. Do NOT use craft-store rings, or belt loops, or anything like that. I bought large-sized aluminum rings from http://www.slingrings.com/ and they come in all sorts of pretty colors and are tested to be strong enough to carry the weight they need to support.

Here's the sling I made:

4  gender neutral baby quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by AutoXchick on: October 05, 2007 08:35:05 PM
The parents-to-be know the gender, but aren't telling anyone, so all I h ad to go on was that the room will be green and yellow, so this is what I came up with. I hope they love it as much as I do, I'm loving the fabrics together. Smiley

The flash washed out the colors a bit, this picture is just of the blocks laid out, but the colors are more accurate here:

5  My "new" kitchen - image obese! in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by AutoXchick on: September 26, 2007 05:29:13 PM
This has been a summer-long project, but we're finally back to a usable kitchen. We still have a TON of little things to do, like the upper cabinets, the backsplash, painting the lower stove drawer and such, but its finally approaching done and I couldn't be happier with the way the colors look. I had a ton of people tell me I was nuts to paint the cabinets black, but I love them black.
What we started with

What the floor looked like after scraping but before sanding

6  Have I lost my marbles? in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by AutoXchick on: September 04, 2007 03:09:29 PM
I think I might have...

I fell in looooove with this tile mosaic I found online

but when I called to get a price, I found out it was $25 a square foot. I'm way to cheap to spend that kind of money so I went and ordered:

2 of these:
http://www.megaglass.com/pc/55869/marine-flat-glass-assortments.html

and 1 of these:
http://www.megaglass.com/pc/55870/Iiridescent-marine-flat-glass-assortments.html

and I'm going to glue them on a plain white background for my backsplash. I also have a few assorted clear marbles and bits n peices I plan to stick in too - I had some flat glass marbles here and I figured that 50 marbles filled about 1/2 a suare foot, so about 100 would fill 1 sq foot, so I figured I would need 1500 glass marbles to do what I want to do.

Crazy? Yeah - my husband certainly thinks so. I'm having a few doubts myself.  Grin I'll post before and after pics once its done, probably in a week or so.

7  Re: crazy quilt square in Quilting: Completed Projects by AutoXchick on: August 07, 2007 07:52:21 PM
This is really nice!  I can see how a similar item would be wonderful as an anniversary gift also.

~~BlondGirl~~

Thanks Smiley I have made a couple of new baby gifts too - with more "baby" colors (pale blues and pinks and greens and yellows, etc) and the baby's name and birth date and weight.
An unfinished baby one:

This is another one I made for a different wedding gift:

8  crazy quilt square in Quilting: Completed Projects by AutoXchick on: August 06, 2007 09:07:18 PM
I'm not sure if this belongs in here or in embroidery - it's a crazy quilt square, but its all hand embroidered, and them framed as a wedding gift.

This link should take you to a larger picture that showed the details a bit better:
