1751  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What do you use as a knitting bag? on: December 01, 2006 01:48:56 PM
I use this bag that I got when my inlaws were cleaning out gramma's parents house to sell.  Great aunt Mary was going into a retirement home and didn't want it, so I claimed it.  I don't know what it's called but it's like a small (14" x 14" x 7"), teal travel bag from I think the 60s.  I'm so diggin' it right now! Cheesy

When I was in high school I covered the back of my door with cereal box covers.  That would give you lots of color plus it's fun and cheap.  My favorites were the ones from different countries.  Smiley  If I did it again I think I would frame just a few really cool ones.

Help out a confused new knitter?

I am so lost with this bit.
BO 6 st beginning of next 2 rows.
Does it mean that I have to BO the first 6 st on each end?

BO = bind off.
this site has a good glossary and videos to teach technique.
Smiley
1755  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Madison's hat with link to pattern -- easy Fair Isle winter hat! on: November 29, 2006 07:55:46 PM
Very cute!  It's such a perfect christmas hat.... I love it.  You did a great job on the stranded knitting.

ps. I can't believe how cold it's been!! The last couple nights its gotten below freezing here in Sacramento.  Crazyness.
1756  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Any indie designers on your wish list? on: November 28, 2006 09:11:37 PM
thanks psyche!  Those are really cool!

Fortunately for me, (or maybe unfortunately?) my parents are pretty big homebodies so most of the stuff they buy is either from catalogues or the internet.  I'll have a better chance of getting stuff I'll use if I give them an online wish list with links. Last year my DH gave my fam his amazon wish list and got tons of stuff he liked.  I gave them a written list and got some cool things, but also a lot of tchochkies and, like, 3 calanders. Tongue

oh well, I guess all parents seem weird to their kids. Roll Eyes

That's beautiful!!  She looks so, oh I'm not sure how to describe it.  Shy and innocent maybe?  Ageless?

I really love her mouth.

ok, I feel like I'm talking to myself, but here's a couple sites I found that seem pretty cool.

This one has a bunch of indie designers selling mostly clothes and jewelry: Indie Shopper

And this blog has a holiday gift guide (scroll down a ways to see it): Design Sponge

ok, I did a quick search and I found this page from the EFF about copyright, and sharing and things.  It sounds like the laws are not super clear about what is legal and what's not, but this page seems for give some good guidelines:

http://www.eff.org/cafe/drmgame/copyright-faq.html

Here's a quote that I think is specifically pertinent to this thread:

" Distribution of downloaded songs - The Napster decision (239 F. 3d. 1004, 1019 (9th Circ., 2001)) held that downloading and distribution of music over the Napster P2P network was not fair use. Therefore, even if downloading of MP3s of audio CDs you already own is fair use, distribution of them by, for instance, file-sharing, would probably be considered copyright infringement."
