21  Re: Little Visitor Round 17 - Summer Vacation! in The Swap Gallery by cinnamon teal on: April 17, 2013 02:12:47 PM
The weather has been so lovely that Mr. CT and I dusted off our little weber and grilled some pizza. Alby helped out and he would like to submit the following pictures, taken from my backyard, to this weeks Home Challenge.

The last photo is Alby in our apple tree. The little guy certainly loves climbing trees, just like his wild relatives. Smiley

Here's a few photos from Alby's trip to Old Gray Cemetery this afternoon. It's the second oldest cemetery in Knoxville and it's full of amazing statues and monuments and flowering trees.

Wow! It's so fun to see all the adventures Franklin has been having! Grin

Alby has been having a very relaxing time so far just hanging out at home with me. I did take him out in the backyard to show him the spring flowers and he learned how to climb trees.

And here he is, hanging out in a big ampersand, to help me with this weeks Blue Challenge.

Here are a few things I've made lately. (I have a lot more pottery but I've been feeling a bit lazy about photographing it and posting. Tongue)

Little winter tree mugs. I made 9 in total. They're a good size for something really decadent, like sipping chocolate.

This is my first attempt at plying yarn. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Second plied yarn. I got the roving from sarahj2001. I really like the way this one turned out.

Alby has just arrived in Tennessee! He got here just in time to meet Franklin before he heads off to California tonight.

He also met Caleb McFluffypants for the first time today. Caleb was very friendly but Alby made it clear that he needs his boundaries to be respected.

This is Franklin. He's getting the finishing touches on his sleeve right now but soon he'll be packing up his bags to spend the summer with waterbaby.

I've got two more recipes for you. First, the fail:

Magic Custard Cake

Unfortunately, this one just didn't have much flavor and it was kind of yucky. Mr. CT and I each ate just one piece and we threw the rest away. But it sure looks pretty, doesn't it? Tongue

This next recipe was a winner. Salmon with Lentils and Mustard-Herb Butter

It was straight up delicious. It calls for a lot of butter, but honestly, I think if you broiled the salmon instead of frying it and used less in the rest of the recipe it would still be delicious. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Coffee Liqueur
I made some coffee liqueur. Just because. You know, for funsies. Because a friend gave me a huge bottle of vodka that I didn't know what else to do with.

The recipe wasn't difficult. I halved it and it still made a growler and a half of the stuff. The flavor is good but it's very sweet.

Pros:
- would make good gifts
- tasty

Cons:
- expensive ingredients (vanilla beans, alcohol, etc.)
- I have no idea what I'm going to do with it all. Any suggestion? So far I've just been adding it to hot chocolate.
- takes about a month

Lemony Wheat Berries with Roasted Brussels Sprouts

I also made this recipe for wheat berries and brussels sprouts. The hubster and I are trying to eat a little healthier. And this was really good. But it wasn't a main course. Next time I think I'll serve as a side to chicken or fish.

Pros:
- good for you
- yummy!
- the wheat berries have an awesome chewy texture

Cons:
- take a little while to make because the wheat berries need to cook for close to an hour
