11  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Merino wool subs?? on: March 05, 2007 02:48:39 PM
Hey all...I am wanting to start on the project Katherine from the book Hot Knits and they call for muench/ggh maxima.  It is 100% superwash merino wool and knits up about 5.5 sts an inch.  I'm trying to find a good sub for it that is relatively cheap b/c I will need 24 skeins of it.  Anyone around here know of any?  I was thinking about Merino Style from knitpicks, but not really sure how it would feel.  Oh and by the way, the pattern is for a sleeveless dress, so it has to be really comfortable against the skin.  Any help would be great!  Thanks!
12  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Pick Up Sticks felted flowers!! on: February 12, 2007 07:53:15 PM
Hey!  Does anyone out there know if Pick Up Sticks has a pattern collection of all or a lot of their felted flowers?  Has anyone done any of these?  I'm not really sure if I should just get the patterns or to get the kits since I don't know what else is needed besides the yarn and if you can get it pretty much anywhere.  Any help before I get these would be a great!  Thanks!
13  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Finished Coronet hat with quick question... on: January 07, 2007 07:43:00 PM
Here's the Coronet Hat from Knitty that I just finished.  It's for a friend of mine who just left for Iraq.  Before I send it to him I was wondering if you guys could help me.  I knit this on dpn and where the needles met my knitting is bigger than anywhere else.  It's not too bad at the top, but really bad at the bottom.  Are there any suggestions on how to fix that or do I just need to deal with it and realize he's got more important things to worry about?  You can kind of see what I'm talking about on the (your) right side.  Any comments/suggestions are very welcome!

By the way it was knit with Lion brand wool and was so much fun and very easy to do.  This is definitely the first of many!
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Anyone done Kimono Styled Sweater from Knitpicks??? on: January 05, 2007 05:39:40 PM
I'm getting ready to start the Kimono Styled Sweater from Knitpicks and I would love to get any input from people that have done it or are doing it.  How's the fit, any confusion with the directions, etc.  I've seen the revisions on the website and just wondering if that was the only problem.  Any help/advice would be great!  Thanks!
15  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Candlemaking.... on: December 10, 2006 04:59:42 PM
The hubby and I are in the process of making candles for some of our family for Christmas.  We are trying to attach a picture to the inside of a glass jar and then we pour the wax in.  This just isn't working for us.  We have tried taping the picture in there and we have tried gluing it.  You can see the tape and it's impossible to get out all the air bubbles and the glue never dries quick enough.  We have done this one other time for my mom's birthday and just ended up having to attach it to the outside, but would like to know if it's possible to do it to the inside?  Any suggestions would be great!  Thanks!
16  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Baby hat ideas...help! on: November 29, 2006 08:42:53 AM
Hey all!  I've just been asked by one of my best friends to make a newborn hat that her baby can wear home from the hospital when she is born.  She is due in January and they live in a very cold climate.  I was hoping to get ideas or pattern links to some warm, soft baby hats.  I don't want anything too simple in order to be appropriate for the occasion and to keep some excitement in the project.  I've thought maybe a two layer hat with the top layer being lace.  But I just don't know...  Yarn suggestions would be great too b/c I've never done anything for a baby.  Thanks so much for any help!
17  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Felting and Cables? on: November 17, 2006 07:44:24 AM
Hey!  I'm looking at doing my first felting project for one of my friends.  I found the cabled hat pattern on Knitty which I really like, but I was going to try and felt it.  http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter03/PATTcoronet.html  Would that even work or would it ruin the cables?  If it would mess it up do you guys know of any good felted guy hat patterns?  Any help would be great!  Thanks!
18  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitty's Hallowig! on: October 27, 2006 07:09:14 AM
I recently finished Knitty's Hallowig for my daughter's halloween costume.  She's DeeDee Doodle from the Disney channel.  I really like the way it turned out, but I had to make some minor adjustments in order for it to fit her.  The bangs are a little short, but this was a really fun project, plus it was quick!  Anyone else tried it out?
19  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / DeeDee Doodle! on: October 27, 2006 06:54:31 AM
My daughter loves the Doodlebops so this year she was DeeDee!  I used the hallowig from Knitty with slight modifications in order to fit her and I just kind of winged the dress.  What do you think?
20  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / IK Holiday Gifts yarn sub??? on: October 24, 2006 05:09:45 PM
I am desperately in need of a new purse and the Floral Felted Bag in the new IK Holiday Knit is perfect.  The only thing is I'm not trying to spend over $100 to make it with the yarn they are calling for.  It's the Jamieson's Shetland Double Knitting 100% wool.  Does anyone know of any good substitutions that have a great color choice??  Also just for curiosities sake what is the difference between Shetland wool and any other type of wool??  Any help would be great!  Thanks!
