1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Another Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap? on: September 28, 2014 12:44:43 PM

Starting a new thread here to see how many are interested in another round of the Ongoing Offer What you Have Swap. It's been over a year now since the last round.

In short the swap works like this:
1) The first person posts a list of supplies/crafted items that they would like to swap away.
2) Someone claims one thing from the list posted (or more if the lists has a 2 for 1 section or something like that). Then they post their own list.
3) Someone claims something from that list and posts their own list...
...and so on. There is one list active at each point, and anyone in the swap (who is prepared to post their own list) can claim from it.

Last year I was the co-organizer / bad cop organizer (keeping the swap going, reminding people to update lists). I kind of like the role of co-organizer, if someone else wants to organize. A2K, what do you say?
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Sending a piece of fabric around the world and get it back fabulously decorated! on: February 25, 2012 10:06:27 AM
Anyone interested?  Smiley

The idea is that all swappers are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 et.c. to start with. Then swapper #1 sends a piece of fabric to swapper #2. At the same time swapper #2 sends a piece of fabric to swapper #3 and so on. You decorate the piece of fabric you get in some way (with appliques, embroidery, other techniques...) and send it on to the next person in this chain for further decoration. If you are the last number you send to swapper #1, so it's kind of a circle of swappers. When the swap is finished all pieces of fabric have travelled a whole round and you have your piece of fabric back, now an artwork!

If there are many swappers they should probably be divided into different groups, so it won't take too much time (it will anyway...) and to limit the damage that could be caused by flakers.

The idea is elaborated here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=339693
3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Looking for rubbery material, glue? glue + paint? to mount perler bead artwork. on: January 07, 2012 05:02:19 AM
I have made a perler bead artwork, about 15x30cm, and now I want to mount it. I would like it to be mounted in some kind of white rubber/glue like material, so that the perler beads are partly covered by the material. I.e. I would need a layer of material that is maybe 2-3 mm thick (about 1/8"). Is there some kind of glue I could use, or maybe glue mixed with paint? Here is a perler bead artwork glued onto a painted canvas: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/kaptenen/Beads/f15e2901.jpg . I want something like that, but with a really thick layer of paint (and preferably something cheaper than artist's paint.

I feel that I haven't been writing things in English for a while. Sorry if it's hard to understand what I mean. Feel free to ask.  Smiley And thank you for any help.
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Recraft an unwanted Christmas gift! on: January 02, 2012 12:52:06 PM
I know we all get them, Christmas gifts that really was a good thought from the giver, but still it is unfortunately something you know you will never use/wear/hang on the wall in your home. Why not make the best of it and make something else of it? I was thinking that either you yourself alter something you got for Christmas and send it away to your partner, or maybe even better, you send the original Christmas gift to your partner to alter it for you!

I am sure some of you think this is not fair to the person who gave you the gift in the first place, but I feel that it is better to put things to use than to keep them tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

Anyone else up for this?
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Another round of the Offer What You Have Swap, anyone? on: July 20, 2011 01:26:49 AM
Anyone interested in another round of the Offer What You Have Swap?

It's an ongoing swap where the first person posts a list of things they have to offer, someone chooses something from that list, then posts their own list and so on, like a chain. It's a great way to swap away those supplies and finished objects you made that you really don't have a use for yourself, and of course a great way to get new lovely stuff.

I'd be happy to explain the swap further. Also here is a link to an old round:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap - January 2011
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address including the country:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? (you must be to join):  (*Please note that this means you have to be willing to send ANY item from your shop out of the country*)
Confirm that you are at least 18 years old (and please mention how old you are if under 18) (yes/no):
Your list of at least five items (crafts you can make/have ready-made or details of supplies you wish to offer), detailed description not necessary:
Have you read the swap info (in this post) carefully and commit to follow the rules of the swap?:
Do you agree to add things to your list and/or reduce prices if noone claims for a day or two, and keep doing so until claimed, doing your best to keep the swap going?:
Have you made sure to post in the discussion thread for this swap?:
Do you agree to send a PM to the organizer every time you send or receive and in that PM include the send by date (from the claims list in the second swap post) and the claim itself (to/from/content) in the correct wording from the claims list?:
I understand what I have agreed to do by answering yes to the above questions, and that failure to do so may be reflected in my feedback for the swap (if not please ask me or in the discussion thread before joining):

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an ongoing swap: Claim an item from the list of the last person who posted and post your own list in response. It makes a chain. When we get to the end of the month, the very last person to post a list will be the first person to post a list at the beginning of the next month, if Craftsters decide to organize a new round at that time.

Remember your outstanding claim limit for this round:
Friend of Craftster: Three
First-Time Swapper: One
Everyone Else: Two

This is how many pending at a time you may have. As soon as one of your packages is received then you may claim again.

Your list of offerings: It is ultimately your responsibility to get a claim. You should take another look at your list if it has been up for 24 hours without a claim. You need to make major changes to your list no later than 48 hours after you posted it if you do not have a claim by then. Major changes could include adding a number of new things (that are not similar to the ones on your list already), having a half price sale (allow claimers to add more items together to make a claim) et.c. If you still do not get a claim you need to keep making changes continuously to get a claim. Also, the next time you post your list it is a good idea to start with the same sale that got you a claim the last time. Please people try to keep this swap flowing. I will PM people who seem to stall the swap. This is not to be mean in any way, but we all love a swap that is flowing, right? Let's all do our very best to make it flow!  Smiley

Once someone claims from you, you have two weeks to get the package in the mail.  Please contact the organizer by personal message when you send the package and when you receive a package so everyone gets credit.

ALSO: Please make sure to post to the discussion thread so you stay up on any updates!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not sign up unless you are willing to send outside of your country!  This means that you will be willing to send ANYTHING in your list out of the country, if claimed.  Please do not list items as "US only."  If you feel that an item is too heavy to send internationally, please do not list it in your shop.

Check out the previous rounds if you need help figuring out the scope of what to put on your list. It is typically somewhere in the $10-$15 range, from a yard to a couple yards (or more) of fabric depending on weight and fanciness, crafted accessories, simpler bags, amigurumis, grab bags of yarn, beads, buttons and notions, kits to learn new crafts... all sorts of things really. Simply put: Put anything (crafting related) on there as long as you get a claim! If you don't get a claim, add things or put them on sale. If you still don't get a claim, have a mega-sale!  Wink If you are having trouble coming up with stuff to add, consider offering a small item to be custom made for the person who claims from you. This can be conditioned on using stash items if you wish. Remember that it must be something that you can complete in two weeks, unless your partner agrees otherwise.

Photos and the Gallery: Whenever possible, include pictures of the items you're offering in your posts. When you receive, it is important for you to thank your partner, be courteous and communicative, but a lot of the items are premade or stash, so posting pictures in the Gallery isn't crucial. The exception to this is when something is custom-made for you in this swap. And if you make something with supplies you receive in this swap, we want to see it!

Delivery Confirmation numbers are mandatory for people in the U.S. sending to other people in the U.S., and everyone else must keep their receipts.

Feedback will (ideally) be given on January 1st for all participants who have no pending claims. Everyone whose packages haven't been received will get feedback once the package reaches its destination.

Reminders/Summary:
1. Make sure to PM the organizer and who you sent to when you send out, with DC number if you are both in US. Also, in that PM, you must mention the send by date and the claim (from/to/content) in the correct wording (from the claims list in the second swap post). Example of a correct PM:
I have sent the following claim
Send by January 16
gavagai to calluna - fabric lot #2
/Sara

2. Make sure to PM the organizer and who you receive from when you receive.
3. As soon as you claim something from someone, shoot them a PM with your address so that they have it and don't have to chase you down later.
4. Lets keep this swap moving, Please try to stay on top of adding new things/combining items into one claim if your list stays up more than a day or two, or the organizer will hunt you down and remind you.  Smiley 5. Post pics in the gallery if someone makes you something custom or you make something from supplies you receive.
6. Lets try to keep this thread for lists as much as possible to save on confusion. If your list is up, you may post a "bump" after you have added something new/combined your items, but otherwise please try to post all questions/comments/requests/whatever into our discussion thread .

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / the Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap Gallery 2010- on: November 06, 2010 03:22:40 PM
Here is a new gallery for the Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap. The last gallery runs from 2007-2009, so I guess this one is for 2010-2012.  Cheesy
9  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / midwestcottons.com - safe to shop from? on: November 06, 2010 08:41:59 AM
I found some fabrics I like in the online shop www.midwestcottons.com , but nowhere on the site is an address of the shop in the real world and the copyright note (on the bottom of the pages) says "your store name here"... and I am just wondering if I should be suspicious about the site. Has anyone shopped from there? or know if it is an o.k. shop?
10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / the Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap is back! - Discussion thread. on: October 31, 2010 06:02:08 AM
This is the thread where we discuss anything about the Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap - the November-December-January rounds. The signup thread for anyone who wants to join for January is here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=368744.0 and I will try to reduce the massive amount of text in the first post (I am not very successful yet though...  Undecided), but also, feel free to post any questions or comments here!

Come on everyone, let's get started!  Grin
