Bear in mind, everything is hand-sewn. I don't do sewing machines.http://www.craftster.org/pictures/uploads/67876/checkeredpurse3.jpg
I patterned the base of the bag off the handbag I picked up at Old Navy a month or two ago. It's about two feet wide and maybe eighteen inches tall. The bottom is an oval. I used the wrong side of a checkered flag fabric, because I liked the blotchier look of the black squares better than the solid. http://www.craftster.org/pictures/uploads/67876/checkeredpurse1.jpg
I used interfacing on all the checkered fabric, and the lining is black and white tweed. Along the top, you can see how I folded over the tweed and checkered materials and stitched along the top with black thread. http://www.craftster.org/pictures/uploads/67876/checkeredpurse2.jpg
I used glamour rings to attach the handle, which is actually a black feather boa. I attached them with scraps of the interfaced black squares from the checkered material.
