1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday 7/20 on: July 19, 2007 09:59:00 PM
Hello all, I hope everyone had a fiber filled week!

I've been a bit behind in the Fiber Friday business, so this week I decided to do a bunch of spinning on my lovely Louet S51 which is nicknamed "Bobby."    I have also recently discovered the joys of setting dye in an oven, which means bulk dyeing sessions in the near future! Smiley Here are some of my little creations from this week

This one is called Degas Blues and is 136 Yards of Bulky Yarn

Astro Pop, 94yds Super Bulky

Cape Cod, 144yds Heavy Worsted

Jewels, 125yds Heavy Worsted

I hope you all had a great week, and I can't wait to see everyone's yarns!

2  Wisconsin / Wisconsin: Northeast / Any Fiber Junkies in the Fox Valley? on: May 22, 2007 10:49:34 AM
I am looking for fellow fiber junkies in the Fox Valley!
It would be great to get together this summer, and I am also looking to try and spark interest in starting a small scale fiber fest this summer if anyone is interested.  I am also looking for people to order bulk wool with, to cut down on shipping, cost, and be able to get a variety of different things to try.
Just PM me if you are interested, or leave a comment on my blog!
Cheers!

4  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 14 ENTRIES / Crocheted Rings on: August 06, 2006 10:37:41 AM
I am taking a metals class this summer, and I am always trying to come up with ways of combining craft with fine art, so when I saw this challenge I thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to test my creative skills.  After all my trials and errors, I finally ended up with this set of four rings.

These rings were made by crocheting tiny nylon cord into strips, as you can see in the third picture, and then dipping them in wax.  Next, I invested the strips of crocheted nylon string into investment (which is very similar to plaster of Paris).  After the investment dries, you put it into a kiln for 3 hours at 1350 degrees Fahrenheit.  When the time is up, I melted my sterling silver, and then cast the metal into the investment where the nylon string had burnt out.  When that is done, I dissolved the investment in water, and sawed the metal into usable pieces to assemble into the rings.  When I was done assembling the rings, I placed them in Liver of sulfur to turn them black.  The finishing step was to buff away the liver of sulfur on the raised areas so that you could clearly see the definition of the crocheted stitches.  If you have any questions let me know!

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / The "my country doesn't have that" Swap on: June 21, 2005 07:22:46 PM
I thought maybe we could use this forum as kind of a swap between countries where if there is something that we want, but it is not available in our country, we can post that we want it, and then if someone from the country sees what the other person wants they can make a request of equal value from the other's country, ect ect.....    Is anyone down for this?

8  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Chemo Care Package on: February 27, 2005 03:05:20 PM
I started this topic because my boyfriend(of 5 years)'s mother just found out she has stage two breast cancer, and she will be going through chemotherapy in a few weeks.  He and I will be making a care package for her, and I was wondering if anyone out there who has gone through chemo, or known someone who has could give us some ideas about what to all include- both crafty items and non-crafty items.  I've already knitted a few caps, one made from a cotton/merino/cashmere blend, and another one that is an acrylic-cotton blend.  She is an extremely caring woman, and is always giving what she can to others, so we want to give her an awsome care package to brighten her days is what is going to be a tough time.  Thanks in advance to all who respond!

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Confessions of a Packrat on: December 01, 2004 08:55:13 AM
Does anyone else think that crafting is great and all, but it is severely eating up space in their tiny apartments?  It is terrible, lately I dont throw away anything, this site is haunting me!(in a good way)  My boyfriend thinks I am crazy for keeping everything, but everything I come across i find a hypothetical use for!  Egads, this is getting bad.....  What is your worst packratting tendancy?  Mine right nowis fabric and yarn, I have a stockpile right now that could provide me with a wardrobe for the rest of my life.  I cant even get rid of my old clothes becasue I see so much potential in them! Helllllp!
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Speaker Stands on: August 07, 2004 07:46:42 AM
Next month my boyfriend and I are moving into an apartment and are going to be sharing a room.  He's a recording tech. major and his recording gear is going with us Sad  He just got new monitors (big speakers...) and i am going to attempt to make some speaker stands for him so that he doesnt need an enormous desk.  My question is, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about making these?  I was thinking of a concrete base with a wood stand coming out? it doesnt have to be super fancy by any means, it will get painted black to match his desk in the end.  So, if anyone has any suggestions, ect... let me hear them!  Thanks a lot! --cassiemarie
