Thanks for all the kind words, guys!  How do I go about moving this to the art section  Or, should I even bother?

Hey!  Im a freelance writer and illustrator, and I've been having a blast putting a graphic novel together in my free time!  I've finally gotten a few pages to the almost completely 'finished' stage, and I'm so excited!  Please tell me what you think!  These are the book's first three pages, presented in order, so enjoy!!!

By the way, i figured this was a paper craft because I drew all the illustrations with a pen and paper, and when it's finished it will be printed on paper, but If i'm wrong, please correct me.

your rum extract sounds like a good idea, but realize that has just as much alcohol in it as anything else you would use...
What about rum-flavored syrup?  I'm sure Torani makes something sutable.  you can look at a local safeway.
5  COOKING / Dessert / Weight Watchers cakes!!! on: December 10, 2007 03:48:45 PM
Does anyone have any recipes that produce a similar product?  I used to be so addicted to weight watchers cakes, and then I kicked the habit.  then today I came accross this article http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/476431/weight_watchers_cakes_good_for_dieters.html, and went out and bought a box.  I'm so addicted, but i can't afford four bucks per box!  Anybody have a good snack cake recipe for me?
6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Re: Glittery, opaley, new cabs! on: December 08, 2007 10:28:50 AM
those are amazing. they are so pretty. i love the colors you chose, they look so rich and remind me of those glittery plastic fruits sold in craft stores. it made me smile.

i was wondering, where/how did you get the castings without the centers in them? haha i imagine prying the middles out, but that doesnt seem very practical

again, great job!

wow, I was just reading through this and realized I TOTALLY didn't answer this question! sorry!  The 'castings' are those buttons you get in bulk at cract stores.  They're made of plastic, and it's really easy to just pop out the centers.  i didn't do that for these though:  there are usually a few in each bag that have missing centers, so i filled them in with clay.  of course, you can't bake the clay with the plastic, so they had to be made separately and then glued in place.

i haven't had any issues with smearing, but it probably comes down to what type of chalk you use and how much you use and whether or not you use a fixative.

with regard to sidewalk chalk:  In my experience this yields a result that is too light and not as durable.  Sidewalk chalk isn't as fine and the pigment isn't as vibrant, and I'm not sure whether it would meld with the water as well as artist's chalk.  All the same, it's probably worth experimenting with.  good luck everyone!
