21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: swallow + ribbon swirl tee. Recon? Maybe not. But pretty! on: February 12, 2007 07:50:08 PM
This is so lovely.  I love the swallows that I've seen adorning things lately.  The embriodery is so detailed!  I am amazed.
22  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: what to do with old encyclopedias on: December 16, 2006 01:30:45 PM
The great thing about having so many encyclopedias is that you can try a bunch of different things.  If you have the time, altered books could be a lot of fun; if you journal at all, altering a whole encyclopedia could be a really cool way to express yourself.  (Check out the <a href="http://embodiment.livejournal.com" target=blank>embodiment</a> community and look at the picture posts for inspiration.  Altered books into journals come out great.)

You could convert some into large blank books or sketchbooks, and then use the pages you remove for decoupage, collages, etc.

There are also artists who use old books to make art.  I saw a book on this at Borders yesterday.  They use the book and all its pages as a canvas.

Good luck!

That's pretty badass.     Grin
Like everyone else, I'd love a tutorial if you're willing to make one.
24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: My first T recons! Retro Drawstring and Indie Rocker (4 pix) on: December 16, 2006 01:13:31 PM
The lacings on the second one are SO COOL.
Welcome to the joyful land that is cutting apart T-shirts.
25  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Honest opinion? Sweater to cropped vest recon on: December 16, 2006 01:09:19 PM
I echo someone else's sentiment that the sweater looks well-made and not blatantly like a recon.  It's is so adorable & innovative!  I'm going to have to try this.
26  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: old sweater becomes new bag on: December 02, 2006 02:39:10 PM
LOVE this.  The crafts(wo)manship is awesome!
27  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Red t-shirt recon *first post + first recon* on: December 01, 2006 01:53:39 PM
That is really cute and very impressive, especially since it's your first recon.  Holy crap.  I echo the sentiments of all the other people who now want to try this idea out.  Smiley
28  UNITED STATES / Maine / Sunsplash on: November 28, 2006 03:47:09 PM
The Sunsplash Craft Fair at Bowdoin College is coming up on December 8th.  Since I go to Bowdoin, I was just wondering if any of you all are bringing your wares.  I'm pretty sure the craft fair is open to the public, too, so if you're in the area, come on by!  I'm pretty sure it's in Smith Union.
29  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: my inside-out green shirt on: November 14, 2006 08:52:24 PM
I LOVE this shirt!  It's so simple but so flattering and pretty.  Good job!

That book is awesome; people like me who are not so good with their hands/the craftness should own it.  There is some crazy-awesome inspiration in there, too.

I love the wee pants and how that top bag came out with "voting" running up the side.
