This is so lovely.  I love the swallows that I've seen adorning things lately.  The embriodery is so detailed!  I am amazed.

The great thing about having so many encyclopedias is that you can try a bunch of different things.  If you have the time, altered books could be a lot of fun; if you journal at all, altering a whole encyclopedia could be a really cool way to express yourself.  (Check out the <a href="http://embodiment.livejournal.com" target=blank>embodiment</a> community and look at the picture posts for inspiration.  Altered books into journals come out great.)

You could convert some into large blank books or sketchbooks, and then use the pages you remove for decoupage, collages, etc.

There are also artists who use old books to make art.  I saw a book on this at Borders yesterday.  They use the book and all its pages as a canvas.

That is really cute and very impressive, especially since it's your first recon.  Holy crap.  I echo the sentiments of all the other people who now want to try this idea out. 

The Sunsplash Craft Fair at Bowdoin College is coming up on December 8th.  Since I go to Bowdoin, I was just wondering if any of you all are bringing your wares.  I'm pretty sure the craft fair is open to the public, too, so if you're in the area, come on by!  I'm pretty sure it's in Smith Union.

That book is awesome; people like me who are not so good with their hands/the craftness should own it.  There is some crazy-awesome inspiration in there, too.
