11  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / New ATCs on: April 10, 2012 12:07:31 AM
I've been a little uninspired lately, so only two this time, in watercolour and pen:

And this was supposed to be an ATC, but I liked the dripping too much to cut it. You can still see the pencil lines if you look closely. Maybe I'll cut it at some point:

Some new ATC I made recently:

As usual, it's drawn with graphic markers and an 0.4 black pen.

Also, I tried my hand at collage:

I think it's okay, not that good, but people here do such beautiful things with collage I thought I'd give it a go. Any tips for improvement?

Some new ATCs. I don't feel the inspiration anymore with my Zodiac theme, so I'm uploading the one I did so far:

I also did a dandelion faerie:

Then I felt a bit lost again, no inspiration, so I've decided to change techniques. I don't normally use a lot of watercolour, but my usual oils are a bit heavy for this size, so I gave it a go. I rather like the result, I'm going to keep with it for a bit, until I get bored again.
This one is my favourite so far, she reminded me of Frida Kahlo a bit, even though she's really based on an Asian girl from a magazine:

This one was my mom's favourite. The colours turned out a bit dull for my taste, but it gives it an "illustration" quality I quite enjoy:

This one I didn't like, but my sister said it's her favourite, so I thought I'd still upload it:

I like the colours in this one, but I really wish I had a white gel pen to embellish the dress - they are surprisingly hard to find!

This one I'm on the fence about: I like the overall look, but the face is a bit messed up:

14  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Bead Embroidery Earrings on: February 18, 2012 02:16:58 PM
A pair of earrings I made for my mom. The glass "stones" are actually pink, not white like they look in the photo.

This is turning fast into a kind of obsession Cheesy Four more ATCs I did today. I actually did two more, but one is for the swap (yay!) and the other the first of a series, so I'll wait until all of them are done to post. Teaser: It's the zodiac. I did Aries today. I'll try to do at least three more tomorrow.

As always, my scanner kills the shading. Please try to imagine everything a little less flat than this.

What do you think? I think I really need a white gel pen... Grin
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Bead Embroidery Necklace on: February 15, 2012 06:01:05 AM
This is my second try at bead embroidery. It's  a bit smaller and simpler than the last piece I made. It's for my mom, she asked for something smaller and chose the general colour scheme. I chose the design and the specific beads. I think it turned out rather well, I like it better than my first piece. Let me know what you think!

a close up:

The lightning is a bit bad, I know. I'll ask my dad to get a better shot on Friday.

My next project: earrings. Stay tuned!

Hi! After all the encouragement and great responses I got for my last ATCs, I'd thought I'd give it a second try. Obviously, my style has changed a bit since 2008, but I like to think it did so for the better. These were done with pen, markers and coloured pencils. Again, the scanning messes the colouring and shading a little, I tried to fix it by playing with the contrast but the light colours still get washed out. Oh well, next time.

18  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / First ATC on: February 12, 2012 02:12:57 AM
Actually I drew these ages ago, around 2008, but I've only started posting in crafster in the last week or so. This is my first and last try in ATCs. Maybe I should pick it up again now that I'm posting. Joining a swap could be fun!
These were drawn using markers, coloured pencils, a 0.4 black pen and some white acrylic. I cut the paper from tea boxes and used the back. Next time I'll probably glue white paper over the tea boxes, they have an odd colour and texture. Some of them turned out a bit funky in colour from the scan - I wasn't sure how to fix that.

19  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Bead Embroidery Neckpiece on: February 09, 2012 02:10:07 AM
My first try at bead embroidery. I saw some great things online and thought I'd give it a try. It's a bit on the huge side so I don't know who would actually wear it, but I'm rather satisfied with my first attempt. The "stones" are polymer clay (first time touching that since I was about five... not really satisfied with that part but oh well). Let me know what you think!

I used Robin Atkin's awesome tutorial, which you can find as a free e-book online, to learn the basics.
