1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: blackandwhite portrait on: August 13, 2006 09:10:30 PM
you have such an original style; i love it!
i really like the eyes in this one
and i think that if you added a little more shadow to the nose, it would help a lot. it just looks a little flat.
but other than that, i really really like it

hello all! i went to the beach the other day and picked up 2 of sea shells to make some earrings (and got majorly sunburnt in the process!) i made them for a friend so i have no action shots or anything. it was my first time making earrings or jewelry of any type so i'd love some input!

and i apologize for the poor quality of the photo. not only was i in a rush, but my camera is really old!
7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / mask invitations for a friend on: July 26, 2006 06:14:34 PM
Hello all! This is my first craft related post on Craftster so please forgive me if something's not right!
Anyway, one of my dear friends is moving away soon so myself and another friend are throwing her a going away party. We were going to make it a surprise, but her mom is getting married so we wanted to make sure she would be there! We asked her what kind of party she wanted and she said, "A costume party!" I love to make cards and things like that, so I offered to make the invitations. Little did I know what I was getting into! I asked her to write up a list of people that she wanted to invite and send it to me... Over 50 people! I had already decided on an idea and I only have a week to finish this project, so I went with my originial idea: masquerade masks with the information on the back.

Here's some pictures of my favorite ones so far!

I had gotten a gift card to Michael's and finally decided to put it to use. I bought some flat backed gems, feathers, and 7 large foam sheets. I also found this pair of sunglasses that had the perfect shape for the masks, so I bought those too. I tore off the foam on the sunglasses and traced the pattern on each of the foam sheets. Then I cut all the patterns out and used a craft knife to cut out the eye holes. I have a lot more to do!
And I'm not really sure on how to add the information on the back. I was thinking of adding a popsicle stick to the side and writing "you're invited!" on it. But for where, who, why things... I'm not sure where to put those! Any insight would be great!
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Homemade Kid's Activity Book (Image Heavy) on: July 18, 2006 09:05:50 PM
Wow! This is amazing! It reminds me of all those times when I had to go to the doctor and dentist as a little kid and they always had stuff like this laying around. It's awesome that you made this yourself! If I had the time (or a kid) I'd definitely make this myself!
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: please help! crafty no more! on: July 18, 2006 03:25:03 PM
I'm thinking your sewing problem is more of a height thing. Probably your chair or your table isn't at the right height and you have to hunch over to see it correctly. Try switching desks where your sewing machine is and see if that makes a difference. As for crafting, I'm having the same problem! Usually what I do is find something in my room and try and figure out how to make it completely different. Especially since I'm heading to college this fall, I need to do a lot of crafts before I have no time! Anyway, I would suggest looking around your apartment and finding something that you could re-do quick and easy. Like taking a lampshade and painting it to match your decor. Also, soap making is always quick and fun! Hope this helped you out some!
