1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Pink Fairy Armadillo on: November 03, 2013 05:43:40 AM
I am a children's librarian and this year for our Boo @ the Library program I decided to do an unusual animal costume.  I was hoping to get the kids to ask what I was so I could guide them to a book display on the topic.

After looking through some lists I chose the pink fairy armadillo:

And here's the costume:

Big claws for agitating the sandy ground so they can "swim" through the soil:

Lots and lots of scales or scutes that make up the top layer of this creature's bony armor:

I had a special nametag made for the day that says "Pink Fairy Armadillo."  Thanks for looking!
2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Day of the Dead Art Quilt on: October 28, 2013 07:22:22 AM
Here is a little hand quilted Day of the Dead piece.  The top is dupioni, some cheapy baby crib batting in the middle, and the back is the same spider print cotton as the casket pieces.  The skeletons are little plastic Halloween decorations my friend found in her amazing seasonal stash.  I made the flower using silver lame and the Bucket List Girl tutorial:

This is my first time hand quilting, and I think I'm hooked!  Smiley

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Viktor Accordion on: June 14, 2013 04:14:45 PM
I call this piece Viktor Accordion.  It is made entirely out of crochet and is true to scale (sorry I didnt have a real accordion on hand to compare).

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Halloween Cyclops on: November 01, 2012 08:05:03 PM
Hey, Everyone.  Happy Halloween!  Here is the monstery cyclops costume I made for our annual Boo @ the Library event.

I started with a base made out of upholstery foam, made a fitted cover out of fleece and set in a pair of sleeves with attached mittens, stitched on the features, made a monster sized necklace, built the paws up with foam and fleece around a pair of bedroom slippers, and rigged a hiking pack with some pvc poles to hold the whole thing up.

Here is a closeup of the face:

And of the claws and the skulls and bones necklace:

I knit finger puppets that look like slugs and then dress them up - mostly for my own amusement.

For my friend's birthday, I whipped up a Mary Poppins themed finger slug.  Enjoy.
