The Pittsburgh Craft Collective is hosting a Supply Swap at the Squirrel Hill Library on January 31st from 4:00 5:00 pm.

If you have left over arts and crafts supplies taking up space in your house, here is your chance to recycle them!

Never got the hang of a certain craft, but still have all the supplies? Trade them in for something else.

Just want to get rid of all those beads or fiber or fabric? Donate them to the swap and maybe someone else can do something with them!

6  Pennsylvania / Pennsylvania: Southwest / Two Events in Pittsburgh for May! on: May 08, 2007 10:07:16 AM
The Pittsburgh Craft Mafia (www.pittsburghcraft mafia.info) is hosting two events in May. These events are open to all crafters or anyone interested in the indie craft scene. Please pass along to anyone you think might be interested!

Craftologie May 17th 6p-8p
We will be starting craft classes held throughout the year. Topics discussed include taxes, craft business 101, and consignment. There will also be tutorials on appliqu, basic sewing, embroidery, book making, jewelry, etc. The first class will be held in the basement of In the Blood Tattoos and Rock and Roll (which also holds Pack Rat above it!). This first class will be free.  Subsequent classes will have a small fee for non-members to raise money for advertising, speaker's fees, and snacks!

Crafterbation May 31st 6p-10p
Keep your calendar clear for Crafterbation! This event will be held at Tuscany Caf on Carson Street in the Southside. Anyone with a love of indie crafts is welcome. You can be a crafter, indie artist, owner of a consignment shop, a customer of indie crafts, or just a fan of the DIY scene. Just bring your love of indie crafts! Pop into the Tuscany caf anytime between 6-10 to chat with other folks in the community that share your interests. We'll most likely be congregating in the back of the caf.

8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / scratch paper books (img heavy) on: April 20, 2007 08:47:50 AM
i just spent ages working on these cute "recycled" paper notebooks today. i am so excited about them. i would love feedback. :-)

a little bit about them. they are created with "recycled" computer paper rejects (so some have text and/or images on them) with blank colored paper mixed in. the outside is a heavy cardstock with varying stamps and words on them. the chord is hemp twine and is a single pamphlet stitch.

here are some action shots:

9  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / bookmakers and craft fairs! (picture heavy) on: April 20, 2007 08:39:28 AM
i am wondering if there are any book makers out there who have sold at craft fairs.

i sell handmade books, notepads and little scratch paper books. i will also be bringing pottery to be sold as well for the craft factory in pittsburgh, pa. the show is in may.

i am just having a hard time guestimating on the books. i have about 30 of the scratch paper books and 10 notepads, 5-10 books. i am trying to make as many as humnaly possible, though it does take time as they are all hand stitched.

any advice from a book seller would be great!!
