1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Tawashi (Magic Scrubber) Swap on: April 28, 2008 11:55:08 AM
Is anyone interested in swapping some little Tawashi?  If you're not familiar with them, they're little pot scrubbers knit or crocheted from acrylic yarn.  They're really popular in Japan, where you can even get antibacterial yarn to make them.  You can see pictures here on flickr or here on Ravelry (you must be a member, but if you're not yet, the wait time is much, much shorter than it used to be.  There's even a group there just for Tawashi lovers.)  The little animal ones are my favorite, but you can make them in all different shapes.  They're a quick, fun way to use up your acrylics.

I was thinking that since they're so small and quick we could have multiple partners (say, up to 5?).  It would be fun to get a variety from different people.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / EZ Aran Toggle Coat on: January 27, 2008 11:30:03 AM
I'm so excited to have finally knit this.  I've wanted to for a long time and bought the yarn about a year ago.  I started this in November and finished it up a few days ago.  During that time I also knit a hat, some mitts, and at least one pair of socks, so you can see that this really is a fast knit.

I used Sheepsdown and 3-ply Sheepswool from Schoolhouse Press.  The pockets are lined with Knitpicks Telemark in Northern Green:

One of my favorite features is the snow cuffs:

The toggles were handturned by my dad from some old stumps he found out by the highschool.  I think they really make the coat.

There's a set with more photos in my flickr and at ravelry.  Thanks for looking!
3  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / FOUND: Altoid Tin Theme Swap Round 6 -- 1 angel needed on: September 07, 2007 09:57:51 PM
Swap Name: Altoid Tin Theme Swap Round 6
Original Thread link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176237.0
Gallery thread link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=178752.0
# of Flakers: 1

We need one angel to make a tin for gossamer_gull.  Please check out the original thread to see how the swap works.  Her five themes to choose from were:

1. circus sideshows
2. labyrinths/mazes
3. Chinese shou symbols
4. fantasy/fairy-tale creatures
5. books

She doesn't have a digital camera, so preferably someone that would be able to take pictures so we can add them to our great gallery.  If you're interested  or have any questions please pm me.  I'd like someone that would be able to send within 3 weeks (even sooner is better!  She's been waiting a while.)  You'll be shipping to the US.  Thanks everybody!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitscene's Cinchy Hat on: August 16, 2007 09:05:15 PM
In celebration of getting my ravelry invite (I'm ginabeana over there) I've been taking pictures of all my knitting.  This was one of my favorite projects, from the last Knitscene (fall 2007).  Kindly modeled by my sister, frogeyesalad.

The hat is knit from the top down, so it was easy to upsize it for my giant head and add length so that it's a big slouchy hat.  Instead of the ribbon in the pattern I knit a piece of icord.  The yarn is all purple leftovers from other projects.
5  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Tangled Yoke Cardigan Knitalong on: August 15, 2007 08:37:03 AM
Does anybody want to knit this with me?  I just ordered this yarn from WEBS in the lichen color.  It was a bit cheaper than the felted tweed, especially when I tossed in a ball of Kureyon to get the 20% discount Smiley
6  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Are the Craftster Affiliates New? on: August 03, 2007 02:41:15 PM
I just barely noticed on the side bar that a portion of your purchase from amazon, joann, etc goes back to craftster when you purchase after clicking to them from here.  I'm so excited to know that my amazon habit can now help craftster.  (I just pre-ordered this  and this, by the way Smiley
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Interweave Preview up! on: July 22, 2007 05:19:57 PM
The bonus photos aren't working for me and one of the pictures is wrong, but here it is:

Things seem to be fixed now:

I quite like that cover jacket and several other things.  I'd like to get a better look at the Tangled Yoke Pullover. I got a look at it and it's lovely!

9  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Altoid Tin Theme Swap Round 6 (SIGNUPS CLOSED, Sendouts July 10) on: June 12, 2007 10:09:26 PM

Date to send item by: 7/10/07

If so, which country?

All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All ages; under 16 need parent's permission and must have a way to keep in contact and to get to the post office for shipping.

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:

- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

You will be given five theme ideas from your partner. You will choose one of those ideas, and re-con an Altoid tin according to the theme. (If you are unable to find an actual Altoid tin, you may use a substitute, provided you keep the size to anything smaller than 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm), and not thicker than 1" (3 cm).) The tins can be square, rectangular, or circular. After the tin is decorated, you will fill the tin with tiny objects that also relate to the theme.

For example, if your partner chose "red" as a theme, you would decorate the box to reflect "red". It could just be different shades of red, or perhaps pictures of red items (roses, cherries, or firetrucks, etc.). Then, you decorate the interior of the box and fill it with red things...maybe a pair of red earrings, a red purse charm, some red hots...whatever "red" means to you. The catch is that you can only send the decorated tin and whatever fits into it. Nothing else! This will be a quick, fun swap and shipping should be fairly cheap, as well.

For examples you can see the galleries from the last 5 rounds:

Round 5: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=169868.0
Round 4: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=161935.0

Round 2:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=80409.0
Round 1: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=106249.0

If you would like, you can have two partners, but the shipping deadline will still apply.  If you want two partners you can make two theme lists or use the same one (you might get two of the same theme, though).

Rules:

1.  Post at least once in this thread so we can communicate with you easily.
2.  US participants must get a DC number.  International shippers keep your receipts as proof of shipping.  Failure to do this will be noted in your feedback and if your package does not arrive you will have to resend.  If you have proof of shipping and your package doesn't arrive I will get a swap angel and you will still get positive feedback.
3.  Communicate!  When you have shipped pm the DC number to me (you can send it to your partner, too--it's fun to track the progress of a package headed your way).  If you are going to be late, let me know by the shipping deadline.  If I do not hear from you you will receive NEGATIVE feedback, preventing you from signing up for more swaps until you have cleared it up.   Sending early, late, getting DCNs, and having good or bad communication will all be noted in your feedback.

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Altoid Tin Theme Swap Round 6! Signups will open Weds, June 13th! on: June 07, 2007 09:49:28 PM
Round 5 is wrapping up and I'll probably start up a new one pretty soon here if anyone's interested.  The basic premise is that each person chooses five themes, and your partner decorates and fills an altoid tin based on one of your themes.  It's a lot of fun.  You can see the fabulous galleries from the past rounds here:
