71  green striped silk top. Now with tutorial in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by goonie on: March 23, 2005 06:22:22 PM
I had an urge to make a silk top with lace after i saw an uber-hot one at a store for 40 dollars.
so, i travelled on over to the discount fabric shop and they had striped silk. YAY. and THICK lace.
so i came home and whipped it up in a jiffy. (and if you know me you know i dont make shirts that are SHORT)

Now, here is the tutorial::
alright, so here is a tutorial as best as i can make it. i really dont know how to do the pictures but it is pretty easy to make anyways.
measure your bust and add 2 inches..and measure hips and add 2 inches.  lets say your bust is 34" and hips are 37". Add 2" to each measurement (36" and 39").
Then, take your fabric and measure a odd-shaped rectangle with 36" at the top and 39" at the bottom. and leave 20" in between on both sides.
Sew the 2 pieces of fabric right sides together down the sides.
If necessary, you can tweak the sides to make it fit better.  The goal is for a top that looks straight, not like a parachute.
Fold over the top 1/2" and sew it down so there is a seam on the top.
To make the straps, cut out pieces of silk as long as you want the straps and 1 3/4" thick. Fold them over right sides together and sew.  Then turn them rightside out and sew them onto the shirt.
Take your lace ( preferably about 4" wide, you can find it at craft stores) and sew it at the top of the shirt.
Sew it along the very top of the lace and the bottom so it stays down.  It will cover up the thread from the straps that might show.
Then, hem it and you're done!
Well, I hope that helps, it is all very simple...the only part that is difficult is making the sides look good.  And I'm sure it could be made with any non-stretch type fabric.  Ask if you have any more questions...

73  some butterflies were roaming around my head... in Screen Printing: Completed Projects by goonie on: March 23, 2005 06:08:34 PM
EDIT 5/19: I just went to www.threadless.com and they have decided to reprint this shirt!!!
so if you want it you can get it, now its with a black shirt, white body, and pink butterflies.

So, I am in printmaking at school...and my friend had this image she got off a website called Threadless.  I turned it into a screen and printed with three different colors.  I accidentally sewed the shirt a little small so its cracking a little...but i guess i deserve it for never excercising.  I've had a mixed reaction...some people think its really cool and other people think its really terrible. What do you guys think?

77  a shirt and a blazer. they're reconstructed amazingness. in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by goonie on: January 06, 2005 08:20:12 PM
i made this shirt from a men's size large...so it is a long shirt on me, because all my shirts have to be long i hate short ones.

this blazer was a size 10 womens blazer with shoulder pads. (ew)  but i loved the print on it and it was 3.50 so i bought it anyways and took it in.

all these reconstructions are pretty old but i just figured out how to put pictures on here. all comments and criticism are welcome!
