1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Petite refreshed seat! on: November 12, 2010 03:24:13 PM
I lucked out and grabbed this fab chair from a friend of mine. The stars aligned, I moved into a larger space and she was moving cross country and had to toss some things. Woohoo!

The chair is a great shape but was in need of retouching.

Here's what I came up with.

The legs have some really great detailing!

And this is the before

I'm REALLY happy with it and am working on my next, albeit much larger, refinishing and re-upholstery.
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Dumpster diving turned garden sculpture on: January 01, 2009 04:16:04 PM
My sister's boyfriend makes metal sculptures out of pieces he finds in junk yards or dumpsters. He made an elephant for my sister last year and I've been bugging him to make something for my garden. So for Christmas I got a tin man! His body is made of two shovels, his face of a toaster oven tray, two spoons and a butter knife, his arms are two whisks from an electric beater. He's going in my garden as soon as the weather turns!

He doesn't have an account but I wanted to share some photos with craftsters:

Here is the creator with my new little friend!
3  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / Leather? on: April 08, 2008 05:25:13 PM
I got a journal for my bf and am screen printing chapter pages within the journal. It's leather bound and I got the idea that I'd like to print the cover as well. I've never printed on leather so I was wondering if anyone had advice.

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Butterfly Shadow Box on: March 31, 2008 10:27:50 AM
So this project comes along with a story. My grandfather passed away in late summer, since then we have kind of affiliated any sight of a butterfly with him being around. This started when my grandmother started taking note that whenever she felt most down a butterfly would show up and stick around, sometimes even groups. The same happened to my mother, whenever she was really missing him a butterfly would of course pop-up.

About 5 or 6 months ago she found a butterfly in the backyard, its life had already expired so she brought it inside and kept it in on the counter in a little dish. I know that's kind of morbid. . .but it continued to sit there until this past weekend.

My moms birthday was Saturday so I decided to make her a shadow box for her butterfly. I used papers, stamps, metal decorations, and fake flowers. In person it looks like the butterfly is in flight or near landing on one of the little flowers I put in the box, which has about 1 inch depth

5  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / ASL print on: March 30, 2008 07:22:33 PM
I made this shirt for my sister who has learned ASL over the last few years. She's started teaching recently.

It says "somebody loves me". I made the print for her bday.

This is her modeling one of the shirts.

6  COOKING / Dessert / Deliciously Deadly on: March 30, 2008 09:53:32 AM
My mothers b-day was yesterday so my sister and I decided to make a cake. We made our own fondant out of a marshmallow recipe. It was supposed to sit over night but we didn't have time for that, as you see it's a bit uneven since we didn't get to let it sit  Sad

We stenciled it with a gun, hahaha, because my mom is a cop. Except our gun is much prettier, friendlier looking with blue sparkles. We airbrushed it with food color spray through a stencil I cut out.

me with the cake!

my sister mixing the fondant, it was super messy

7  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / Turnip Lady Place Settings on: October 10, 2007 12:19:41 PM
I thought of this design last week on a train ride home. It's a dress which shifts into the shape of a turnip at the hips/(turnip roundness??)

I made the screen for this design over the weekend and ended up printing it on TONS of things. I printed canvas totes, dish towels, napkins and place mats.

These are the place settings that I made. I printed them in a set of four. I LOVE them. Smiley

Here is a close up of the design, though I cut the last section of the root out of the picture by mistake

I made the tea set also!

8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / The results of a jewelry photoshoot! (pic heavy) on: June 06, 2007 05:15:26 PM
I hadn't gotten picture of my work up in FOREVER so I made my boyfriend take 8 trillion pictures of me wearing it. It was fun!

Here are some of the pictures that came out well. I'd love to hear what you think about the jewelry!

9  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Why does my solder gun tip break so quickly? on: March 17, 2007 07:43:29 PM
I've been doing a lot of soldering lately for jewelry purposes. I've noticed that I've been dealing with WAY too many broken tips. I went through probably 10 pieces of jewelry tonight before I had a broken tip. I know this isn't normal. what could I be doing wrong?

I'm hoping for some help from some of you wonderful stained glass people! Thank you if you could offer any advice!

10  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / Street Vendors License on: March 08, 2007 12:47:25 PM
So, I'm looking to possibly set up shop in Union Square (where else?) once the weather gets nice to sell some jewelry. I've spoken to a couple people about a NYC street vendors license but have not yet learned too much. Apparently it takes an extremely long time after applying for a license.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Would you be able to give me some info about what type of license you applied for or know of?
