Me thinks we have serendipitiously stumbled upon a new subcatagory of curvaceous crafsters..lol
I'm a pear/hourglass, hehe, and I have loved reading your posts regarding your concerns about being a pear/hourglass. Plus I'm only 5'1". My legs are short, and am short-waisted. But...I am beautiful, healthy, active, and happy...so I dress that way..I love love love, tunic tops, special necklines, and trouser type pants that fall gracefully from the widest part of my hips to the ground.
Anything tapered, legging type, short t-shirt that falls at the waist or hip exactly, skirts and tops that are different in color, 3/4 length sleeves, and a few other items are big no-no's for me to look and feel my best.
recent bargains: light weight demin pull on elastic waist jeans from Macy's reduced to $2.99!!!!! yes 2.99, so I bought 2 pair. Fabric from Joann's 3.00/yd ..54 inches wide, linen/cotton blend, in light pink, so I bought it all up, like 6 yards. I also bought for 1.97/yd from Walmart a polyester fabric, ivory background with medium sized water color roses, polyester lavendar fabric 1.97/yd.
When I make what I'm going to make I will post pix ( I have trouble posting, tried to in another catagory and messed up several times..lol)
Also in another category, I saw a discussion of a 6 way dress. Originally for maternity, the crafsters discussing it said anyone can wear it. I am very interested in this, if anyone here has ventured to make this or has the tute, I would be forever appreciative.
Looks like a aline skirt bottom, tube-like top, sewn together in stretchy black fabric, then a contrasting fabric in a lighter color as the apron around the waist that allows for wrapping in various ways to create 6 different looks
Draw lots of attention to your upper body as a pear, ladies..scarves on the head, in the hair, on the neck. Earrings, necklaces, shoulder pads to balance upper and lower body, puff sleeves, epaulets. For tall pears, lighter color on top, darker color on bottom. If you have fantastic legs...show them!!! Hair swept up may reveal a slender neck.I have, over the years, read many many books on clothing, textiles, 'fashion', etc. And I have come away with a style that works for me.
I see the human body as a canvas, and clothing, makeup and accessories as the paint.
If people compliment you in a certain style, color, etc, this is a clue that you should wear more of that style or color.,
...Accentuate your positive attributes! Wear what makes you feel beautiful, you will act differently and carry yourself differently depending on what you wear.
I'm no expert..I just love talking about clothing, sewing and style.
