i'd be interested in how you made the bodice! i love the dress. congrats on winning!

Thank-you. Smiley
Oh snap, I forgot to say how I did that.. sorry.
All I did was sew my material to a bra so I could have the best possible fit for me (and turns out my model too..) I put the darts in then tacked the material before sewing securely to ensure I got the dart and all in the right plave. I can try and get some photos if you would like to see them, I had some more process ones because it was assesment, but I need to find them again.
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Newspaper and Balloon garments. on: November 30, 2008 05:23:00 AM
These were also both entries in the Angel Flight Teen Trendsetter competition I entered, it is the first year it has run and it was for charity which made it even better.

I made a Newspaper dress and matching hat that got first and a garment from 260q balloons (those ones you can make animals from)

The newspaper one:

The huuuuuuge hat on my head.

On my dodgy old dress form.

On my model on stage.

I just scrumpled and stuck all the newspaper together to make the dress after I formed a "lining" using duct tape and newspaper. The hat is made from dowel wood, cardboard and newspaper (of course). It was almost a disaster. It is really rainy and humid here and my duct tape shrunk my dress so it was too small for my model. She insisted on wearing it we ended up having to tape her boobs so they were smaller and flatter so we could get the dress on and off her.

The Balloon one:

I have no idea what's with my face but I was adding balloons to it.

Almost done.

On stage.

I basically wrapped the balloons around her strategically. She had a little red balloon dog on a leash that you can't see in the photos.

I hope you like them, any comments or criticism is greatly appreciated.

I won the trendy daywear category with a dress I made for my Home Ec assignment. I was inspired by IamTheShelbster's Painted Chiffon Glamorous Dress (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=69344.0)

I made it from a 50% silk 50% cotton blend fabric.

I randomly painted the dye on the fabric and then randomly painted gold fabric paint all over it.

Some photos of the making of it:

I have some showing how I did the bodice (I think) and skirt and all somewhere if anyone is interested.

Photos from the show:

And I also entered an extrememly simple skirt I made quite a while ago.

Together on stage:

Me with my sash and tiara and all:

I hope you like it, any comments or criticism is appreciated. Cheesy

Thank you courtsi!   Go for it and do your toe!!!!   And please post pics when it's finished!
(When I started, I covered my USB key with a) many layers of plastic film, very tightly, and b) a thin layer of petroleum jelly over that, as to: a) protect the key, and b) ease the key out of the papier-mch)

You're Welcome. Smiley I surely will. I just need to get my assesment done first...
Thanks for the pointers.

That is BEAUTIFUL. I really like the fabric you used, patterns like that are gorgeous.

What other kinds of swimsuits have you made? If you could, would you be able to post some tips on how to make swimsuits? Yours looks downright professional.  Cheesy
