1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Awesome product: Tile Tattoos on: January 17, 2008 06:30:03 PM
This would be a great solution for renters who can't change their tile.

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / 4" drawer pulls-- do they exist? on: December 31, 2007 10:29:47 AM
So my husband and I recently bought an adorable midcentury bungalow. It's perfect. It's exactly what we wanted. We love it.

We did, however, discover one problem with our lovely house. NOTHING is standard size. We have a huge set of built-ins in the bathroom, and the holes on the drawers are 4 in. apart. I'm having a helluva time finding pulls (preferably sleek, midcentury style) to fit.

All this to say, does anyone have a great source for vintage and/or oddly sized cabinet hardware?
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / What color to paint the hall? on: September 16, 2007 03:17:48 PM
Greetings craftsters!

My husband and I recently bought a lovely early 50's bungalow, and we're loving the renovation process. We're painting every room, and so far picking out the colors has been blessedly easy...except in the hall.

It's white right now, and the walls are fairly dirty thanks to the previous owners' kids. We could just paint it white again, but that just sounds so...blah. Especially since every other room in the house is a bright, vibrant color. I'd really like something with a bit more personality.

The hall is visible from the kitchen and living room, so I'd like the color to flow with the colors in those rooms. Here's some pictures for color reference:

Any ideas?
4  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Grout recs? on: June 08, 2007 03:55:31 PM
I'm working on a mosiac project for a friend's wedding gift, and I need some grout recommendations. The glass I'm using is mostly earth tones-- browns, greens, ambers, etc. I don't want to use white grout (I'd prefer a sand color), but I'm having a difficult time finding colored unsanded grouts at any of the stores in my area. Does anyone have a brand/store they favor? I've tried Lowe's, Hope Depot, and Texas Art Supply so far.

I'm in the Houston area, if that helps.
5  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / replacement for heavy whipping cream? on: May 23, 2007 06:44:50 PM
One of my students gave me a box of yummy looking scone mix for a birthday gift, but you have to add heavy whipping cream to it, which will make them SERIOUSLY fattening. Any suggestions for a replacement ingredient that won't exponentially increase the size of my ass?
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Giant 70's speakers on: April 30, 2007 08:53:29 PM
Greetings, oh crafty ones. I need help.

My husband's grandpa recently gave us his late 70's/early 80's record player and speakers, which is awesome because we have quite a collection of vinyl that we haven't been able to listen to in awhile. The downside is that the speakers are HUGE (about 3 1/2 ft. tall, I'd wager) and they're finished in a fairly hideous 70's faux woodgrain. They currently sit flanking the gorgeous 1940's dresser my hubby gave me for my birthday last year, and I feel like the speakers really take from the antique beauty of the dresser. The setup works well, so I'd like to keep the speakers where they are, but I need a way to de-uglify them. Thoughts? Ideas?

Gratefully yours,
5year
