21  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Bold Striped Tote & Turquoise Fabric Flower on: February 17, 2005 05:25:04 PM
My latest creation - I am quite proud of how it turned out. I absolutely love the colors, and the flower is a very nice touch. Let me know what you think!

22  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: to all the cat lovers out there.... and everyone else too! on: February 12, 2005 05:09:09 PM
I just wanted to say cute idea - and I'd love to swap links if you get a website up and running (I sell cat collars). I will also add that my cat's favorite toy BY FAR is her pom poms... like the 1 1/2" ones you buy at Michaels. She has a basket full and they are always strewn around the house. She loves them. They are super cheap - maybe you could incorporate those into some cute toys? Good luck! Smiley
23  UNITED STATES / Colorado / Carbondale Mountain Fair on: February 10, 2005 02:38:45 PM
I am going home to Colorado for the summer - and the big craft fair there is the Carbondale Mountain Fair. I've checked out the information, and normally a 10x10 booth costs $350. The fair runs for 3 days and they claim it attracts upwards of 20,000 visitors... it is also "juried". $350 is far beyond my budget - so I emailed the coordinators of the fair asking if they had any discounts for students/locals. Turns out, as a local (well, former local) I could share a booth with another local artist for $100 plus 15% of sales.

I'm not very experienced when it comes to craft fairs - I've only done one small one before. I'm debating whether or not to participate in this one. Is the $100 + 15% a good deal? Would it be worth my while? It sounds like a huge fair with tons of people and high end goods (which is good - I found at my last fair my stuff was considered "ridiculously expensive"). Any advice/suggestions? Anyone participated in this fair in the past and/or planning on participating in it this year? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

25  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: maniac to...? on: February 03, 2005 08:02:36 PM
I say go with your name. You can't get sick of that, right? I did the same thing, my business is called Lindsay Designs. It's simple and unique, and if someday you decide to stop selling crafts you can still use the domain name for something or other, and since it's your name, it'll still make sense.
26  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Craftalong Un-swap part 3: Knitting on: January 31, 2005 08:43:02 AM
It's K2P2 ribbing. Maybe I did something wrong? oops haha. The edges are messier than they should be... I couldn't seem to get rid of the loop that appeared on the last stitch of every row. that could be it maybe? Thanks though!
27  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / I want to make a scarf like this... on: January 30, 2005 05:58:57 PM
I have this gorgeous scarf that I bought a few months ago... and now that I've learned to knit for myself... I want to make one similar to it, but I'm not quite sure how. See, the scarf has two strands of yarn in it (a thick white one and a thin rainbow one), and it seems like one row is knit with one, then the next is knit with the other. I'm not quite sure how to go about doing this. I bought a pretty blue yarn and a "fun fur" yarn and I want to make it have the same effect.

Also just curious if anyone knows what stitch is used... it looks like maybe a k1p1 ribbing (one side has ridges) but the other side is pretty smooth, which baffles me? Any suggestions?

28  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Craftalong Un-swap part 3: Knitting on: January 30, 2005 05:54:46 PM
OMG... I finished... EARLY! I swear I thought this thing would never be finished. I kept putting it around my neck to see how long it was... and I felt like I needed 4 more inches for about a week. But its finished... and I'm very happy with it, especially since its my first time knitting. Haha... if you look closely you can tell which side I started on (its the ugly one).

Funny thing is... I kept going and going because I wanted to get the darned thing finished... but just so I could start another one! Ahhhhh!!! I've already got the yarn for it... haha... this is very addicting. Thanks for having this craftalong and pushing me to actually learn!

29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Where are my Cat Lovers at???? on: January 29, 2005 12:16:56 PM
Yes! Definitely! I was just thinking of suggesting a pet swap of some sort... and boom! here is a cat one! Smiley Please let me know when/if you decide to organize it. I'd love to participate.

i also think you should require at least one handmade item... so not everything is bought... but hey, this is craftster... I'm sure we'd all have done that anyway. Smiley
30  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / expanding product line... need a new identity? on: January 27, 2005 09:39:05 PM
I currently sell cat collars through a sub-business of my business called Kitty Boutique. I have split Kitty Boutique from my main business, Lindsay Designs, because I feel they are completely different products and should have their own unique identities. I have struggled with setting up navigation and compatibility between the two sites - currently, the same shopping cart can be used on both, there are links from one to the other in the menus, and there are links to the "matching" ribbon belt from a particular cat collar.

Now, I would like to expand Kitty Boutique to include dog collars as well.

Here's my dilemma - dog collars... Kitty Boutique. I love the name, I love the logo, and I don't necessarily want to redo all that. Luckily, I have not had anything printed (such as tags) that I am stuck with, so if I need to change I can without too much cost. Would dog collars flop on a site called Kitty Boutique? I don't want to set up a 3rd sub business (two is confusing enough), and would like to keep all the pet products together. Should I rename and redesign? I'm still a fairly new business so it's not like I have a huge customer base that may get confused if I change names. Or what about adding a small "and doggies too!" to my current logo? I have a feeling that dog collars will sell better than the cat collars, in which case I may want to shift my focus to those. Any suggestions at all? What should I do?
