11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Cloth-covered-ball necklace? EDIT: PHOTO ADDED on: September 10, 2008 12:55:14 PM
Let's see if anybody knows what I'm talking about.

A while ago, I bought a necklace that looked relatively easy to make. It was a series of lightweight balls (about half a pin-pong ball's size), each wrapped in one type of fabric, and woven together into a necklace. It looked like the fabric was fastened together between the balls with a small clear band.

Has anybody seen one of these that they can link me to?

Or, better yet, tell me how to make them?

I loved that necklace but I'd like to use some of my own fabrics to make more.

Edit: Here's a photo, in case anybody still has no idea wtf I'm talking about  Huh

12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / The Beatles (2 dresses) on: April 02, 2008 03:05:57 PM
I modeled these two dresses after one that I cut apart a few years ago, and have been tracing/modifying ever since. Here they are in all their Beatles-y glory!  Cheesy

And this is totally unrelated, but who doesn't love a headband?

13  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Oh fabric, why can't I find you? on: March 19, 2008 08:21:01 AM
Has anybody seen red & white striped jersey knit anywhere recently?

I'd like the stripes to look a lot like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/red-white-stripe-cotton-fabric15yds16in_W0QQitemZ120234747825QQihZ002QQcategoryZ71209QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

But everything I keep finding is either 100% cotton, red and yellow striped, or tiny little stripes.

Has anybody stumbled upon something like this recently?

I haven't mastered the art of the non-blurry photo yet, unfortunately. With flash, it comes out a white blur. Without flash, my shutter speed slows down and it's all blurry looking. Either way, at least know you know what these would look like if you were very very drunk.  Cheesy
15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / First attempt at a newsboy hat on: November 08, 2007 07:56:25 AM
I've been trying to make my "perfect" hat. Part newsboy, part beret, and very slouchy with a rasta-y fit in the back.

I bought a Vogue pattern to use for the visor portion, thinking it'd be the hardest part. As it turns out, that's not actually so bad. It looks like the hard part is going to be getting a perfect fit for the band. This one came out way too small, so I guess it'll have to belong to a child in the future if it wants to be worn.  Undecided

16  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Selling your cooking on: October 06, 2007 01:37:31 PM
A friend of mine suggested that I start taking some of the desserts I make into restaurants and trying to get them to stock them. She said that a friend's mom used to do it, she'd just bring in a sample, leave it there, and ask them to serve it just for the day. Then if it did well, they'd buy more.

Is it really this simple? Can I just go into any mom & pop owned place and do this? What exactly should I say?

Has anybody done this before?
17  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Strawberry Shortcake Clutch/Cosmetic Case on: August 17, 2007 06:36:19 AM
I used the instructions from this tutorial: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=73692.0, but I drew the pattern myself because I wanted the shape to be slightly different.

I plan on doing another one, but switching the button for some velcro and adding straps. For now, I'm still working on getting the "perfect" clutch size to have it be a practical "going out" type bag.

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Newsboy or rasta hat pattern on: August 08, 2007 06:41:03 AM
Hi everybody,

I'm really in love with newsboy style hats, particularly ones with lots of "slouch" in the back. Kind of like the one I'm wearing here...

I'd really like to start making my own, but I haven't seen any patterns that don't involve knitting. Has anybody seen a tutorial or pattern for one? Any help is appreciated!

20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Rainbow Brite tote bag! on: July 17, 2007 10:59:56 AM
I have been trying to make this rainbow brite purse for a really long time now, and I finally finished.

My puppy attacked it midway through, and I had to recon the strap. Then I ran out of fabric and had to wait one paycheck to make another trip to Joanns (because I can never just buy what I need when I go)... ANYWAY, here it is!

The little pocket in the front is from a tutorial by laurasaurus.
