1  Fiber Friday May 16th 2008 in Spinning: Completed Projects by xampx on: May 16, 2008 01:19:30 AM
My new Louet S10 arrived last Thursday, just in time for the long weekend I booked off work. I spent ALL DAY Friday making this. Thinking back, im not sure why it took so long since we have no TV and the internet wasn't working.

Damson Dream
100% pre-dyed Merino in Damson, purchased from Wonderwool Wales.
Approx 75g made approx 120 meters. I haven't measured WPI but its about an Aran weight.

My second yarn is:

Dirty Clown
100% merino again. Approx 100g/150m Aran again.

I love my Louet!

2  Fiber Friday 2/8/08 in Spinning: Completed Projects by xampx on: February 08, 2008 12:26:04 AM
Hi.
My first time posting in Fiber Friday!

I finished this last night so i'm eager to show off! Its not my first attempt at spinning, but its only maybe the third time I made a good job of it (well I think so)

This is a chunky 2 ply, one ply is multicoloured merino, and the other other is just a dark green.

approx 29 meters @ 8-9WPI so far

This is 5 ply (VERY messy and confusing) it has 4 plies of just merino, spun really really fine, and one ply of merino mixed with angelina

approx 45 meters @ 11wpi so far

Im definitly addicted!

3  Help with new wheel in Spinning: Discussion and Questions by xampx on: January 21, 2008 12:45:37 PM
I was silly and chose this antique wheel on impulse for a Christmas present. The person I bought it from was using it for decoration, but the person SHE bought it from used to spin with it.

Its all moving and I have managed to get some yarn out of it, but it only seems to have one ratio - 6:1 and im having trouble keeping a steady speed.

So here are pics with what I think is wrong with it. Please could someone tell me whats missing and give me some tips?

Thanks

Nothing much wrong with this. Its a castle style wheel....

In this one, i'm wondering if the hole for the crank is meant to be this shape? Its a little loose and it makes a hell of a noise, and sometimes falls off mid spin. Should it be just round? I can easily fix it if thats the case.

It only came with one drive band, wrapped like this around the wheel and the flyer whorl. But as you can see, the bobbin has a groove too. Should the drive band wrap around this too? Is this for a brake band? If so, what else would the brake be attached to?

Also, the bobbins are tiny. 3in across. Does anyone know of another wheel that has these, or will I have to make them myself? (I'm pretty good at woodwork) It only came with one, or at least thats all the seller could find. This is what I've managed to make, but I've put it aside for a while as i'm sure it is meant to work better than it is.

Any input would be well received.
Thanks
