4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: hexing around batik quilt on: July 31, 2016 02:24:47 PM
Oooo, two of my favourite things - hexagons and batiks!  I don't know that I'd call this one a "mini" - looks like a good size for a baby quilt to me.  Smiley  Fantastic job, I had to go check out the other pics as well!

ETA:  Hmmm, from 2014 - guess they may not see this now!  Roll Eyes

it is totally a good baby quilt size - i did this before i was familiar with what a mini quilt is, so you're right Smiley

This is amazing and labour intensive work! Did you design the paper piecing yourself or use a pattern?

all the blocks are available for personal use off of a website that has a TON of different character/fandom pieces.
i am so not brave enough to try designing anything myself!
you can find all the goodness here:  http://www.fandominstitches.com/ Smiley

Just wow!
I whish I was that good at paper piecing. But I always mess it up.

i totally started with easy star blocks, then gradually worked my way up to this.
it was daunting for sure, but in the end so worth it!

This is so lovely - I bet she was thrilled!

she was!
though we had to come to an agreement that yes, it was 100% allowed to be used by baby once they were through with the spit up/explosion phases Smiley

Ohhhhh, this is the one I've been waiting to see since you commented on my sciency quilt - and it ROCKS!  I am so jealous of all the science fabric you found and the the whole quilt looks stunning!  Hope your sister likes it; if not, send it my way.  Wink

thank you so much!
haha it's safe to say she likes it!
she pulled it out to show her fiance and seems pretty excited that it will fit their future queen sized bed.
10  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / nerdy science ribbon star quilt on: January 25, 2016 03:01:35 PM

my mom and i had purchased this fabric forever ago, planning to someday make a quilt for my sister (she's a physics & math major)
well, she went off to school and got engaged so i felt like the quilt HAD to be made before she became a mrs in april.
i made a few of the ribbon star quilt blocks for the first time during a quilt block swap, and thought they would be perfect.
we got 9 different prints altogether from the science fair/chic geek lines of fabric and went to town on creating this quilt that was SUPPOSED to be for a twin sized bed.
well, its HUGE.  but when she gets married and has a bigger bed, it will still be able to be put to good use Smiley

the row across the back was actually supposed to be ANOTHER row on the front.  but i gave it the boot, and love how it turned out.
the backing fabric is all little atoms as well Smiley
thanks for taking a peek!
