21  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / My friend really needs some cheering up/ starting chemo =( on: August 02, 2006 06:56:43 PM
Hi all!  I am writing this because just last night I found out that one of my very good friends is going back for another round of chemo this Friday.  This saddens me to no end because her heath problems prohibit her from doing so much of what she really wants to do.

She sent a mass email today and this is part of it:

As you probably know, I'm starting chemo on friday & I am going to lose my hair. I'm going to have a wig, but I think I'm going to be using a lot of scarves and hats. This is where you come in...

I would love to get scarves from everybody, from everywhere. They're really cheap to ship, cheap to buy and people have them around the house most of the time. If you have a scarf or hat (minimally used. i don't want any house painters sending me their nasty sweat stained hats.) you'd be willing to send me, please just message me through myspace and I'll send you my information.

A friend gave me this idea.. and I guess it's kind of giving me 'hope' that at the end of all this, I can look through each scarf which represents the people in my support group individually. I know a lot of people online who want to be there for me, but can't be because they live in different parts of the world.

Even if you want to send me a postcard. I'd love it.

Thanks guys!

I went to work right away collecting things to send her and cheer her up, but I feel like I cannot do much alone.  If you would like to send her something, especially encouraging words, please let me know.  If you would like to do this, please PM me and I'll give you my address and I will send it to her.  The reason I'm doing this is because I'm not sure she'd want me to give out her address, and I don't want to ask in hopes I can keep this a surprise, and prevent her from disappointment if nothing comes of it.

If you do this, please include your name and your address/e-mail with what you send, because I know she'd like to use this as a way to make new friends from around the world.

I'd just like her to know how much I love and support her, and show her that even people who haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet support her too!

Thanks for reading!

I had a really hard time finding a category for these...  Then I thought, of course, MICELLANEOUS!

These are a great way to decorate ugly structures in your town.  As far as I know they're easy to make, long lasting, and in my opinion, quite beautiful.   My friend Ryan has made several of them, and he loves them!

Pack a bag, and hit the town!

23  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Matchbook Notes on: July 27, 2006 07:51:42 PM
I put these together with some card stock and computer paper, then transfered an image onto the front.

The one on the left has a picture of a candy heart reading "Fuck off," and the other is an image of brass knuckles!

I got the idea from these two craftsters:

24  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / I need some sewing machine help! on: June 30, 2006 11:06:48 AM
I am getting a new sewing machine for my birthday...  I have one currently that is older than I am, so I need to find a new one.

I'm still a beginner when it comes to sewing, so I need a user friendly one.  Also something relatively inexpensive, easy to carry from place to place, and one that is easy to replace parts.

If anyone has advice on which brand or model to get, please let me know.

Thanks so much crafters!
25  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Cellulose Transfer card on: June 28, 2006 01:31:44 AM
I made this card for one of my best friends who just moved away.  It's a cellulose transfer of a Craphound image.  It didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but I did it quite last minute.

Sorry about the pic. quality!

Opinions are greatly appreciated!!!

ReadyMade : How to Make [Almost] Everything: A Do-It-Yourself Primer (Hardcover)
by Shoshana Berger, Grace Hawthorne

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1400081076/sr=8-1/qid=1149824509/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-7082135-9328947?%5Fencoding=UTF8

This book was pretty awesome.  A lot of the ideas are VERY ambitious, but isn't that what crafting is all about??  All of the ideas are eco-friendly.  It's inspired by the Ready Made magazine, which I'm sure we all know and love.

My recommendation....  Borrow it from the library.  Not exactly worth $25, but still worth holding for thirty days!

I've been making my own tote bags for a while now.  This is my latest project, and my first post on Craftster!

I'd love to hear any and all opinions.

My muse is Crap Hound.  www.showandtellpress.com  What a great source for inspiration!
