31  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / dried tofu recipes? on: December 27, 2006 03:31:19 PM
Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has any recipes for dried tofu (aka dried bean curd, aka [I think] yuba) that they've actually tried.  I've found a bunch of recipes online, but since I can't find dried tofu here, I'd prefer not to waste it on trial and error.  Thanks!
32  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Celtic Icon from Inspired Cable Knits? on: December 20, 2006 07:57:03 AM
Just wondering if anyone's made this...I did search first (::pats self on back:Smiley and it looks like someone tried to start a KAL but it never got off the ground.  The reason that I'm asking: I'm making the Central Park Hoodie and I want the cables to continue up the back of the hood and straight over the top, and Celtic Icon is the only hooded sweater that I've seen without a central seam on the hood.  I'd have to modify it some (read: quite a bit), and I just wanted to see how it had worked for everyone else...to decide whether it's worth the effort!
33  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Super-easy Garter Stitch Gift Set on: December 15, 2006 04:09:32 PM
It's fast...it's unisex...it uses (almost) only knit stitches...that's right, it's the garter-stitch gift set!  The fingerless mitts are from Weekend Knitting and the scarf is modified from SnB.  They're from the same yarn...the flash bleached out the pic where I'm wearing the mitt.

Details on my blog:

Great for last-minute gifts...only about 8 hours of knitting total Smiley
34  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Seamless Hood Pattern? on: November 26, 2006 04:02:29 PM
Hi there,

I'm looking for a seamless hood pattern, hopefully one that starts by picking up stitches along a neckline.  I'm making a cabled sweater (a modified version of Knitscene's Central Park Hoodie: http://www.knitscene.com/photos/2006/project13.asp

I want to continue the cables up the back of the hood rather than only up the sides as in the pic.  I've tried Googling to no avail...and a friend suggested short rows but couldn't remember a specific pattern.

Thanksmuch for any help!

PS. I've looked through the KAL here on Craftster and didn't come up with anything...
35  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / How do you find time/make time to knit? on: October 13, 2006 08:53:20 AM
Hey Craftsters...

I'm a med student with a long list of want-to-knits and a closet full of yarn to make them...and NO TIME.  Just wondering...when do y'all find time and/or how do you make time to knit?  People have posted such fabulous FOs, and I know that you're busy too!  I do knit in class (and I say that, not to be yelled at for rudeness Embarrassed, but just to let you know...).  Since I'm taking notes I can only work on simple things like hats and scarves...and not on the sweaters, etc. that I'm dreaming of.  Any suggestions would be welcome!
36  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Patterns/Instructions for New Knitters? on: August 31, 2006 11:41:39 AM
Hey All...

I'm going to be teaching about 15 or so medical students how to knit: men & women in their 20s without a whole bunch of spare time.  (What was I thinking?  I dunno...)  Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has any good sources for instructions (besides SnB and hands-on guidance from yours truly), and VERY basic patterns for donatable items -- I'm working to arrange things with our local hospital.  I'm thinking of starting out by having everyone knit garter-stitch strips (to sew together to make baby blankets)...and then I'm stuck.  Our first meeting will hopefully be in about 2 weeks, so any help/ideas/inspiration would be totally appreciated!
37  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Beaded Drop-Stitch Scarf? on: June 26, 2006 09:02:42 PM
To anyone with beading & knitting expertise... I'm making a drop-stitch scarf and I'd like to add beads.  The pattern is actually based on the "Everyone's Doing It Shrug" http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=48268.20 except that I only cast on 20 stitches.  I've already threaded about 200 beads on the yarn (before casting on).  My problem is that I can't get the beads to fall where I want them to -- I pushed them close to the needle as I was making the yarnover, but it didn't work.  I was imagining that they'd run along the dropped stitches (sort of like beads on an abacus) but instead they were fixed in a row of garter stitch.  Any ideas?
