1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Re: Anyone from Canberra? on: March 23, 2007 04:31:34 PM
I heard that too about Crafty Frog (in Kambah) and I went there and wasn't so impressed.  It is a tiny place crammed with things - mostly cross stitch etc.  Some beading stuff on stands but not a whole lot. It is not bad and worth checking out but I won't be going back there.

For beading definitely try Bead Street in Phillip and there is one in Belconnen too.  They have walls and walls filled with a million little jars of beads and findings.

hi mwagen

yes there is a bit of a shortage - yay for buying online!  Have you been to Addicted to Fabric (sewing, patchwork fabrics, trims, etc) and Bead Street (beading) in Phillip?  You would probably have to walk over from Woden bus interchange.

Hope that helps!

Jen

Lincraft in Civic and Spotlight in Queanbeyan are both quite good for various bits too.  They both have lots of yarn and fabrics etc.
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Re: taking nice pictures of jewelry? on: February 15, 2007 01:38:24 PM
I put mine on my scanner bed and scan them in.  I find it reduces the shadows and other dramas.  Once I have it scanned in I opened it up in Photoshop (but you could use any similar program) and then adjust the Levels - I usually have to bring the right hand slider over to the left a bit.

I will try the macro setting on my camera though - hadn't thought of that!  Smiley

hi and thank you very much for your feedback on pricing.  I have upped the pricing on pretty much everything now.

I worry that things won't sell if they are priced too high but then it reflects badly on quality if too low I guess.  thanks for the confidence to say "it is worth that much"  Smiley

I will go and read the thread on content that you mentioned too.

thanks heaps!

6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / RED INSTEAD handmade - site review please on: January 25, 2007 04:58:58 AM
hi everyone

I have just redone my shop site at:

www.redinstead.com.au

and I would love some opinions - particularly if you think anything needs fixing up or there are any suggestions.  I would also really like some honest opinions on my pricing as it's one thing I find quite hard.  Do you think my prices are reasonable?  Don't forget that the default currency comes up as Australian dollars but you can change it to US (or UK, Euro) in the box on the right hand side).

thanks a lot

7  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Re: Looking for a sales rep (Canberra, Sydney and/or Melbourne) on: February 04, 2006 03:19:17 PM
Thank you both for your great ideas.  I can't really afford to advertise and with small children I can't really get to festivals - but hey those ideas might suit someone else reading this!  Smiley

thanks!

8  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Looking for a sales rep (Canberra, Sydney and/or Melbourne) on: January 07, 2006 01:05:54 AM
I am in Canberra and I make handbags and children's clothing and toys and one of my business goals this year is to get my stuff stocked in boutiques etc around the place.  I am not sure how to find a sales rep.

The only thought I had is asking at a boutique to see if they will give me a business card of one of their current reps but is there anything else I can do to find somebody to rep for my business?

Any help or advice on this would be much appreciated.

thanks

Jen

wow thanks everyone!  Smiley

I make them for my online business so these are from about the last 5 or 6 months.  I thought I would post a bunch at once and the mosaic was a cool way to do that!
