1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My little Yoda on: October 28, 2010 05:01:55 PM
I got the idea to make this costume last year thanks to someone on this site.  Plus my partner is a huge nerd.  LOL

I made the hat out of fleece and cut down a child sized karate uniform.  The brown fleece coat underneath is hers and she is wearing a beige turtleneck, beige pants and a beige belt from a thrift store.

Her lightsaber is a green glow stick.

I only wish her ears would stick out on their own, in the last picture her dad is holding them out...oh well.
2  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / WoW onesies for my new little one on: July 23, 2009 05:40:58 AM
My partner loves World of Warcraft.  Since I love him I thought he'd like our little one (due any day now) to have her own special WoW onesies.

I googled for some ideas and just "borrowed" them.  I got some iron-on flock letters on clearance at Micheal's and used some second hand onesies.

It was super quick and easy.

I also made another one but I don't have a picture.  It says "my diapers are epic" on the bum.
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Fabric balls for my nephew for Christmas (with picture and link to pattern) on: December 20, 2007 05:37:03 PM
I am a new auntie.  In honour of my nephew's first Christmas I made some fabric balls.
They were really very easy to do.  I made three in under an hour and they are great for using up scraps.

I used the pattern and instructions from this website which I found via the craftzine blog.

I added the tags so that they would be more interesting and easier to hold onto.

The blue ball was my first attempt and the top looks a bit like a nipple but, oh well.

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My doll costume for a black and white Halloween Birthday party (3 pics!) on: September 23, 2007 05:08:04 PM
So I am having a Black and white themed halloween birthday party and I am making a costume of a dead doll.  I was inspired by zosomoto's creepy spider loving rag doll here...

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=196827.0

Here are the pics so far.  It took me about an evening's worth of work.  I used velcro for everything since I am still scared of button holes and zippers.  I didn't use a pattern, just the great circle tutorial found here...

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=12439.0

Should I keep the apron, or do I look too much like a French maid? I have black and white striped tights and a while puffy sleeved blouse to wear underneath.  I'll be wearing black ballet flats as well.

Thanks in advance
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Crayon roll (with 3 pictures) on: July 31, 2007 02:48:37 PM
Well I've made a few knitting needle rolls but my 2 year old nephew doesn't knit (yet...) so I thought I would make him a crayon roll like the ones I've seen here.

It fits 26 crayons, I only have a pack of 24 but I'm going to add another black one and maybe another yellow since my nephew is obsessed with that colour at the moment.

Here it is open

Here it is with the flap closed

And here it is all rolled up

It was pretty easy and took about an hour.  Next time I'm going to make one that closes with velcro since my nephew can't tie a bow (yet...)   Cheesy

7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Bum birthday cake (with pictures) on: February 24, 2007 01:36:01 PM
So it's my boyfriend's birthday and I made him a cake.  Since he is bum-obssessed I thought it was fitting.  I totally stole this idea from patty-o-furniture's amazing Valentines day cookies.

I used a bit of orange food colouring to tint the icing and sour blue raspberry candy strips for the underpants

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / I spy bag (complete w/ photos) on: December 20, 2006 08:01:33 AM
I saw these at a craft fair and thought "I could make that" and so I did. I made two for my nieces, one red and one green.

Back

I added a little pouch with velcro at the back to store the cards in.  I also made an easy and a tricky card.  I wanted to laminate the cards but I ran out of time.  I used things around the house and even Shrinky Dinks for the hidden items.  They were pretty easy to make but sewing the clear vinyl window was a bit trying.
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Easy last minute gifts (with tut) (complete w/ photos) on: December 20, 2006 07:52:51 AM
We have all these people that we usually give gifts to but we just bought a house and we are a bit broke.  My uncle gave me this idea and it was really easy to do and not too expensive (about $10.00 Cdn each)

Tutorial:

Go to Home Depot (or similar store) and buy the largest glass drill bit they have (a half and inch and about $15.00)
Go to a store that has glass blocks (mine was a local masonry store and they were $7.00 each)
Go to a store that sells wide wire ribbon (or use some you have)
Buy a small string of white lights on a white cord that only has one plug (they are about $2.00 each)
Take stuff home
Place glass block in cold water (used a laundry tub), slowly drill a hole in the back of block to one side with the drill (and drill bit) lubricate with water so it doesn't get hot
Let block dry
Shove Christmas lights in hole letting plug dangle out
Tie on a ribbon

Voila you are done.

We didn't even break one block and we made 4 in about an hour.  It was fun being crafty with my boyfriend too.  Wink

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas placemats, apron & box (complete w/ photos) on: November 18, 2006 11:16:40 AM
Being broke I decided to make most of my gifts this year.  My sister wanted placemats and an apron in "not cutesy" Christmas fabric.  This stuff was on sale so I bought it.

I made 8 placemats, 4 have green fabric on the back, 4 have red fabric

Here is her very basic Christmas apron

I had some fabric left over so I made her a Christmas box thingy.  I have mine filled with baby oranges (mandarins)
Here is is flat

Here it is with the ribbons tied up

I used the Simplicity Christmas club pattern for the box.
