I'm stuck in San Jose, too. If you don't feel like the drive to SF, but don't mind the caltrain, I would suggest going to Discount Fabrics. Its just three blocks from from the end-of-the-line stop in SF. Easy, decent prices and a much better selection than what you'll find around here.

Grin Not sure how many outlets are still in this same area but a few years ago, you could also buy fabrics at some of the clothing outlets nearby.

More of a quilting oriented fabric store but nonetheless pretty cool - Peapod Fabrics:
Relatively new, kind of small, but good selection of quality cottons and some notions. The owner likes retro style fabrics.
Beverly Fabrics (at Westlake Shopping Center, Daly City) is good for basics for sewing, knitting, etc. Sign up for the monthly mailer and you'll get coupons off for your purchases, usually 30% off a fabrics piece, 40% off one item, 50% off a fabric fold.
