Fantastic - I'm bokkmarking this, I know so many people who'd like a pair.

That is brilliant! I kept thinking about making one for my nephew for Christmas but didn't get round to it, yours is far better than I had vaguely planned - if you posted a pattern I, for one, would be very, very pleased then I could make one for his birthday next month (and then one for my daughter and one for husband and then one each for my other 5 nephews....)

Those are sooo cute!  What "type" of socks did you use?  Smiley

Thank you, most of them were from mid calf length socks and the horse/zebra were  over the knee socks

Thank you so much everyone! I hadn't looked this since I posted the pictures this morning and you've really given me a boost.

The pigs are really simple to make (actually they're all pretty straightforward). The only one I used a pattern for was the monkey although I adapted it slightly as I was using huge thigh length socks so only needed one instead of a pair.

I'll try to write something more detailed tomorrow but basically the pigs are made from 1 sock cut in half taking out the heel. I sewed both halves back together with the top half inside out then folded it in two so that elastic at the top of the sock is covering the toe seem (still with me?) then I stuffed it and gathered the opening together and stitched over and over until it has a nice tidy bum.

The legs are some truly hideous polymer clay beads I made last year which are tucked between both layers and then I sewed the elastic bit of the sock top to the toe bit so that the beads can't fall out. The face is made from buttons and big seed beads and the ears are traingles sewed from the heel section cut out right at the beginning.

Does that make any sense? I've sold or given away all the ones I had but I'll make another in the next couple of days and take photos of the stages but honestly they're embarassingly easy.

Thanks again!
There's a couple of books out there. Like: Sock and Glove, Happy Gloves, Stupid Sock Creatures, and Stray Sock Sewing.

Ooh! I haven't heard of Happy Gloves or Stray Sock Sewing - I saw a Japanese one (I forget what it was called) on Amazon but it cost an absolute fortune to get sent to the UK

Over the Autumn I became slightly obsessed with sock creatures, I was buying so many pairs at one point the women in my local clothes shop asked if I had a fungal infection.

Ethel & Dorothy the sock pigs

Vincent the lonely eebra

Lulu the lazy cow

Charlie Monkey

Harry the happy horse

Moko the shy monster

And this is just a fraction of how many I finished, thankfully my daughters wanted to give some out as Christmas presents and a friend of a friend bought some as well so we're not drowning in a sea of socks  but I have so many others in my head and many many pairs of Christmas socks....

Oh What!?! I just spent 25 on a pair of these! That'll teach me not to abandon Craftster again.
Still, all three of daughters want a pair too so at least I can use your tutorial to make theirs.

30  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / AAAIIIIEEE!!!Ninja! on: October 08, 2008 06:21:05 AM
My daughters were playing a game called Ninja Master in thier Kung Fu class last night and have been leaping out on me from behind cupboard doors, curtains and from under thier beds all morning while I've been trying to get the house straight before I go to work and they get off to school  - this is my revenge... and he even has his own numchucks

He started life as a sock monster but was crying out to become Ninja, I was too scared of him to argue. I think I need a nap. I sound mad.
