I just wanted to mention a great organization that I am a part of: Soldier's Angels (www.soldiersangels. org) Soldiers Angels is a no- profit organization dedicated to the support of our military (including veterans).

You can sign up to adopt a deployed soldier and send them letters and care packages. And, you can submit a soldier that you know to be adopted. This is really great for those soldiers who do not have any family support back home, or even for those that do that could just use extra support.

There is even knitting, crochet and blanket sewing teams that you can join, if you are talented that way!

As a former Army wife and now wife to a disabled veteran, I have seen first hand how important support is for our military overseas. Thank you to all of you that are already supporting or looking for ways to support your military members.

I too took up knitting while hubby was deployed, it was very theraputic to make things to send to him, Now I'm just obsessed with it!
 

Those are too cute! I love the penguin too. Maybe you want to dress the little yellow puppy up in something, maybe a hat and a vest/sweater? I've been working on christmas projects so the first thing I think of is a santa hat and red sweater.

I would wrap them in something that would conform easily to the shape of the bottle, like tissue paper. Put a big bow and streamers or tie with raffia, and put a little tag. A friend of mine gave me some skeins of yarn for my bday and that's what she did. You can tell what's in it but it looked really pretty anyway.

Having moved around a bunch ( we are Army ) I know how it is to be one place but call another place home. One of the best Christmas gifts I got from my friend was a framed picture of my hometown. She basically just found a really nice picture of the area at sunset and framed it in a pretty frame. It has gone everywhere with us, coast to coast and to Germany and (soon to go) back.
I dont know if that is something that would survive 2 trips in a suitcase, especially if it has glass, but just an idea.
