1  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Super easy veggie snack on: September 04, 2009 08:50:21 AM
This is super simple, but its something I don't think a lot of people would think about so I wanted to share it.

As a child I never got into radishes, but I visited my parents the other day and my Mom had some fresh so I decided to try them out. And guess what? I loved them! Especially with a little vegan ranch dressing....

I started to play around with different toppings and found that fresh herbs such as basil, rosemary, lavender, parsley, and thyme were a great addition to the veggie/ranch combo! If you have fresh herbs around you should try it out, even if you don't have ranch. It adds a nice flavor.

I also tried the ranch and herbs with cherry tomatoes and it was delish. I think the herbs would be good on just about any vegetable that ranch would be good on.

In the photo there's beets and cherry tomatoes with the ranch and herbs!

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Flowery Maternity Wrap Dress on: July 30, 2008 07:51:17 PM
For my apparel construction 3 class, we had to make garments for different age groups. Out of the four (toddler, elementary, maternity, elderly) the maternity turned out to be my favorite.
I designed, drafted and sewed this dress. Too bad I'm not pregnant (JUST KIDDING!hah). Anyway here are the pictures

it can be tied in the front or back

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Beatles Decoupaged Lunchbox on: July 22, 2008 09:02:44 PM
This project was inspired by two items that I feel are totally different - a Beatles calendar and a tin lunchbox I bought in middle school. Sadly I do not have a before picture of the lunchbox, but let me tell you, it was horrible. It said "Princess of Everything" on it and was bright pink with a crown. I don't know what I was thinking when I spent $20 on it... The calendar was my boyfriends and when the year was over I couldn't let him discard it because of the great pictures.
After a few months I finally came upon both items and realized the lunchbox could be saved. I cut out my favorite pictures, then went to work cutting out little pieces of paper in different colors to make a border. Then I used one of my favorite products, Mod Podge, to attach the pictures and paper pieces to the lunchbox. A few hours later this was the result.

I'm really happy with how it turned out, and wish I had more lunchboxes like this to put pictures on.

I wasn't sure if this was the right forum, so mods feel free to move it if it needs to be somewhere else.

4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / cute little bento (edit:more bentos added) on: May 18, 2008 01:04:22 PM
I was inspired by acidtrix's topic about her first bento to take the plunge and get my own. So after scouring the internet for a couple days I came upon this.

The cutest bento box ever! So I had to get it. While I was waiting for it to come in the mail I bought another bento box but that's another story. Anyways, it came in yesterday so I had to make myself lunch!

On the left theres jasmine tea bags, a fortune cookie, and a mint.
On the right theres soy crisps, nori maki, a key lime, strawberries, grapes, and raspberries.
Since I got the other bento, I've been collecting accessories for it. So far I have small heart shaped cupcake baking cups (seen in the bento on the right), little cookie cutters, regular cupcake papers w/ stars on them and all kinds of little cute snacks. It's an addiction already.

Edit: I made a couple bentos last night for my friend and I. They're almost the same, but there's little differences because she's a picky eater. They both have mushroom flavor udon noodles, pan fried tofu, and yellow bell pepper and onions on the right layers and various fruits/berries on the left. Mine has blanched asparagus and she has pretzels and a fortune cookie.

Here's her bento

And here's mine
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Red Dress for Heart Health on: February 13, 2008 08:36:42 PM
My University has a red dress fashion show and health fair every year. This dress is an original design by me and I made my own pattern for it. I'm really happy with the results. Unfortunately they didn't have the competition this year but my professors loved it so that's always a plus. I wasn't able to get good shots of the runway part, but it's easier to see the details in these pictures anyways.

Here's another dress I made, this time for myself. It's a popular pattern, I forgot the number right now though. I changed around the back though to make it more interesting and made the skirt part very short.

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / purse mishaps w/pic on: April 25, 2007 09:48:53 AM
Here's a couple mishaps I've had lately...

I make a lot of custom purses for people and a couple weeks ago a girl asked me to make a large purse with an inner pocket, and eyelets on the top with fabric threaded through. After finding the material she wanted, which was pretty expensive, I set to work. All was well until I got to the inner pocket. When I went to sew in the zipper, the slight stretchiness of the material messed it all up, so I decided to try a different pocket style.
Too bad I ran out of material, so I had to go back to the store and buy more fabric. I get home and try to attach the pocket via zig zag stitch... and it also didn't work out. So I give up on the whole pocket thing and tell the girl I'll take $5 off since I wasn't able to add the pocket. After putting the purse together, it was time to  make the holes for the eyelets. Of course, I didn't have a punch for the holes, so I improvised and used my seam ripper.
After getting the first hole done, I moved on to the second... then woopse, I ripped a hole over an inch long through 4 layers of fabric and two of thick interfacing!  For a while I thought I would have to do some weird appliqué or something, but alas! my dad had larger eyelets, a hole punch and helped me get all the eyelets in. Finally the  dang thing was done, so I email the girl and she's excited... until her mom takes away her money and won't let her buy any more purses! So after all that work and stress, I haven't even sold it yet! Here's a picture of the finished thing.

The next custom purse I made wasn't so dreadful, but I still had problems. A chick wanted a purse to have a skull & crossbones & bow appliqué and the wording "I'm a mother fucking princess" on the front. So after doing the applique, I used my not so good MS Paint skills to do the wording and print it out on iron on paper. Fortunately I cut out each word separately, because on the "I'm" I found out it wasn't going to work at all. The iron on looked really bad on the black fabric, and you couldn't see the wording at all. So I went to work using my nails to scrape off the iron on stuff until I couldn't take it anymore and cut off part of it and finished the purse up. I didn't get a picture of that purse, but here's a picture of one that it was based off of and has the same style/applique.

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / retro sweetheart dress on: September 28, 2006 06:52:39 PM
I just finished this dress last night. The fabric is red with white polka dots. I altered the top from a pattern that I already had and added the white part. Unfortunately I didn't have a long enough zipper for the back so I made it lace up. I think it turned out nicely in the end though.

Comments are greatly appreciated!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / blue as can be on: September 13, 2006 03:06:13 PM
My boyfriend's mom gave me a bunch of fabric that she didn't use anymore so I made this purse for her for thanks. I think she liked it and I hope she uses it sometime. I'm really happy with how the pocket came out and I like the blues together.

Tell me what you think, good or bad!
