The dress i'm making won't be fasten at the waistline, and actually i want it to fit the body thightly and will be getting loose gradually from knees to toes... some kind of a mermaid dress, so i'm planning to make it like a princess cut and add some width to each piece... that's why i'm a bit nervous and not sure about it... cuz it should be well fitted to the body and i don't know where to get the drappy thing from i don't know if this can help but the one shoulder thingy should be long enough to tie it in a bow over the shoulder... i wish i could find some pictures like the dress i'm making but i haven't found anything and i don't have a scanner to get the sketch up
If anyone has done this kind of dress before please let me know what i can do to make it the best i'm trying to learn about patterns and cutting

i just need to know how to make the top part... i mean the drapped one shoulder thingy... i'm kind of confused because it looks like it's just one piece... but i'm not sure... maybe they're two... like the base and the drapped fabric on top...

has anyone tried this before? or something similar?

Thanx sooo much for your answers!! really!! i've never cut an entire skirt on the bias:S i'd really need too much fabric and i only have 3 mts of chifon and had 2 mts for the lining... based on my class notes i decided to cut the lining just like a trumpet skirt... kind of a mermaid skirt, i started adding width from the hips line... i think it'll come out good cuz it doesn't look like a mermaid skirt that much

i still haven't cut the chifon skirt... as i said i only have 3 mts of chifon and i don't think it'd be enough to cut it on the bias... i don't want it gathered i'll just add 8 pleats: 4 cms each

the skirt would be about 115 mts long and the waist would be 96 cms width... i've been told that it'd be great if i cut it in the circle way cuz chifon will fall naturally through the body but i'm not very sure... i'm really afraid to cut it wrong cuz i can't get more fabric:S

i tought the second skirt fabric was chifon cuz it says so:S at least the top part... i don't want the top like that i just need the skirt to have that kind of movement and to flow through the body

do you think it is better to cut it A-line? if so... how can i? i've never cut an entire skirt on the bias:S

Hi guys! I really need some help and advice... i'm just about to cut the fabric for an evening gown... and i'm wondering weather to cut a circle skirt/full skirt or just an A-line skirt and add some width trough it...

it's a drapped sweetheart, empire waist black chifon gown... and i need the skirt to look like this:

i really need it to flow through the body and i'm really afraid to make it puffy like this one... http://www.edressme.com/9011t.html i know the dress in this pic has a tulle overlay and it might be the reason for the puffiness... plus it is pleated...

i'm not planning on pleating the skirt... maybe 2 big pleats on the front would be ok... just to create the line and flatter the figure... and i know chifon falls naturally... so i guess i'm not that lost... but i'm really afraid to cut it a wrong way... so i wanna be as sure as i can before cutting it... so what do you guys think?? should i cut it A-line or circle??

yesss i'll be posting a tute in a couple of weeks for you to make them!

it's really fun making those:P and you can customize them! i'm renting them as costumes for halloween or parties and shows cuz they're not so weareable  but they look cool for parties so... that's it... anyways.. u can make them the way u want to... use a lighter fabric or add less tulle...  it's up to you!

i made 2 dresses... the green one took me about a month!! it's result of a loooot of hard work ... it's made from green podeswa and hot pink satin, the checkered part is zigzagged :S every single little romb... i added little transparent purple-y sequins all around the rombs and on the skirt making little spirals  i added a pink satin bow on the back and pink feathers on the straps... the skirt is hideously big... since i tried to resemble the circus tent... seriously it's BIG... some friend wanted the dress for a circus themed college show and she said that they wanted the king candidate to come out from the skirt  lol!... anyways.... the skirt's also made of tulle.... LOTS OF IT... i think i'm gonna recycle it since it's like 2O mts in there...

the purple tulle dress took me about an hour or less i didn't even need a pattern i made it on my sister (the model) and added some hooks on the back to set the bow and the tail and some pink cristal beads on the skirt to make it glow a bit
